Brief:
This low t' mid power kit is a space plane with parachute recovery.
Construction:
This kit comes with a polystyrene nose cone that's great for painting. Begad! It also has beautiful balsa parts, me bucko, a nice body tube with no spirals t' fill, a paper nozzle and stickers (but they are nay decals). Arrr! I be leery o' t' stickers at first but they are very thin and look great.
T' instructions were as detailed and thorough as I have seen. Well, blow me down! Well, blow me down! T' illustrations were done so well someone who could nay read could build this rocket. Ya scallywag! T' only thin' wrong with t' instructions be that it said t' use t' fin guide found on page 7, shiver me timbers, but thar was no fin guide on page 7. Begad! Avast! For me this wasn't a problem. Blimey! I just printed a fin guide in seconds usin' VCP.
T' nose cone be a loose fit but a little maskin' tape goes a long way. There's nay much t' tell about t' construction really. Begad! Blimey! It's a straightforward kit t' build. T' construction o' this kit is no different than most kits havin' standard components, arrr, like t' bent motor hook and surface mounted fins. Ahoy! Blimey! T' fins are off centered, ya bilge rat, but this is nay a problem.
Finishing:
This is where t' higher quality components o' this kit really pay off. Ya scallywag! Finishin' was a breeze with t' high quality balsa, matey, shiver me timbers, me hearties, BT, and nose cone, shiver me timbers, I had it completely finished in under an hour.
Construction Rating: 4 out o' 5
Flight:
First flight was on a D12-5. Arrr! Blimey! Delay be too long. Blimey! T' second flight on a D12-3 was much better. T' third and fourth flights were on E9-6 and really ripped off t' pad.
Recovery:
I'll agree with Alex that t' chute is larger than needed, but I don't see that as a bad thing. Blimey! On t' 4 flights I did, me hearties, t' chute came out perfectly every time.
Flight Rating: 5 out o' 5
Summary:
It is specified as a "skill level 3" kit but it was too easy for a skill level 3. Blimey! Perhaps it be t' well-detailed instructions that made it easy t' build. T' kit retails for $28. Aye aye! Nay much thar really, but you can find it at discount hobby shops for under $25 and that brings it t' a fair price.
