Brief:
This low t' mid power kit is a space plane with parachute recovery.
Construction:
This kit comes with a polystyrene nose cone that's great for painting. Avast, me proud beauty! It also has beautiful balsa parts, a nice body tube with no spirals t' fill, shiver me timbers, a paper nozzle and stickers (but they are nay decals). Ya scallywag! Ahoy! I was leery o' t' stickers at first but they are very thin and look great.
T' instructions were as detailed and thorough as I have seen. Begad! Begad! Blimey! T' illustrations were done so well someone who could nay read could build this rocket. Begad! Blimey! T' only thin' wrong with t' instructions was that it said t' use t' fin guide found on page 7, but thar was no fin guide on page 7. Ya scallywag! Arrr! Blimey! For me this wasn't a problem. Begad! Blimey! I just printed a fin guide in seconds usin' VCP.
T' nose cone was a loose fit but a little maskin' tape goes a long way. Avast, me proud beauty! There's nay much t' tell about t' construction really. Arrr! Ahoy! It's a straightforward kit t' build. Aye aye! Ahoy! T' construction o' this kit is no different than most kits havin' standard components, like t' bent motor hook and surface mounted fins. T' fins are off centered, but this is nay a problem.
Finishing:
This is where t' higher quality components o' this kit really pay off. Aye aye! Begad! Finishin' was a breeze with t' high quality balsa, BT, arrr, and nose cone, I had it completely finished in under an hour.
Construction Rating: 4 out o' 5
Flight:
First flight was on a D12-5. Begad! Begad! Delay was too long. Well, blow me down! T' second flight on a D12-3 be much better. Aye aye! T' third and fourth flights were on E9-6 and really ripped off t' pad.
Recovery:
I'll agree with Alex that t' chute is larger than needed, but I don't see that as a bad thing. Blimey! Blimey! On t' 4 flights I did, me bucko, t' chute came out perfectly every time.
Flight Rating: 5 out o' 5
Summary:
It is specified as a "skill level 3" kit but it be too easy for a skill level 3. Well, shiver me timbers, blow me down! Blimey! Perhaps it was t' well-detailed instructions that made it easy t' build. Ahoy! Ahoy! Blimey! T' kit retails for $28. Well, blow me down! Blimey! Nay much thar really, me hearties, but you can find it at discount hobby shops for under $25 and that brings it t' a fair price.
