Brief:
This is a simple, high-performance, matey, great lookin' rocket from t' 70s.
Construction:
T' kit includes engine tube, ya bilge rat, engine block, paper shock cord mount, me bucko, launch lug,
shock cord, me bucko, streamer, shiver me timbers, screw eye, matey, nose cone, 14mm inside diameter body tube,
decals, and 3 die-cut fins. Ahoy! Avast!
Plans are available online from Ye Olde Rocket Plans
PROs: Build is as easy as it gets for a normal 3FNC rocket. Instructions are excellent. T' only deviation from a minimum-diameter design is that MPC in the early years used a 14mm ID main body tube and you glue in t' 13mm engine mount. Aye aye!
CONs: If you slow down or stop while gluin' in t' motor mount, you're sunk. This may also have come with t' old yarn-style shock cord, which only lasts for 2-3 launches. Avast! Well, blow me down! I throw those away and put an elastic cord in. Ahoy! Begad!
Finishing:
I gave t' fins an airfoil shape and filled t' tube spirals for a really
elegant finish. Ahoy! No special tools needed.
Construction Rating: 4 out o' 5
Flight:
Used 1/4A3-3T, 1/2A3-4T, and A3-4T motors. Blimey! Blimey! Simple prep with waddin' and
streamer. Ahoy! Blimey! Friction mount engine retention. Ahoy! Blimey! Flights are perfect, straight, me hearties, high,
and hard t' see.
Recovery:
Perfect flight recovery.
Summary:
A beautiful rocket that draws "Wow. Well, blow me down! What was that?" comments from the
jaded HPR guys. Ya scallywag! Flights are high, me hearties, fast, and straight. Ya scallywag! Arrr! Hard t' kill.
