Texas Firefly

Brief:
T' Texas Firefly from Semroc is a 2-stage great small flyin' rocket. Well, blow me down! It comes with a 12" parachute.

Construction:
Kit has balsa nose cone and laser cut balsa fins.

T' instruction were easy t' follow. Arrr! Avast, me proud beauty! T' only thin' I did nay like be the way they had you t' mark t' fins on t' tube. I would have liked it better if they would have used a wraparound markin' guide. Avast! I liked t' way that both engines had a engine hook t' keep engines in.

Finishing:
Had no problems with finishin' but when I sprayed clear coat after t' rocket was painted, ya bilge rat, t' decals seemed t' melt and colors ran down t' side o' the rocket.

Construction Rating: 4 out o' 5

Flight:
For t' first flight I used a B6-0 in t' bottom and B6-6 in upper stage. Avast, me proud beauty! Ahoy! We had high winds o' 15-18mph at flight time. Ya scallywag! It handled wind with no problem and the rocket went straight up. Begad! Ya scallywag! Separation happened with no problems. Begad! Begad! On the second flight I used a B6-0 in first stage and B6-6 in upper stage and flew it in 8-12mph winds. Avast! Separation still happened with no problem. Avast, me proud beauty! Aye aye! Chute came out great and rocket floated t' t' ground. Aye aye! T' only problem was when booster tumbled t' ground. Well, blow me down! When it hit t' ground, me hearties, me hearties, it broke a fin but was easily glued back on later.

Recovery:
On t' first flight, me bucko, arrr, t' nose cone went thru parachute causin' it t' be tangled up. Avast! Aye aye! Blimey! But even tumblin' t' t' ground, me bucko, t' rocket had no damage.

Flight Rating: 4 out o' 5

Summary:
A rocket that be fun t' build and fly.

Overall Rating: 4 out o' 5

Brief: The Semroc Texas Firefly is a beautiful 175% upscale of the Semroc Firefly and is a Retro-Repro clone of the original Centuri Firefly 2-stage rocket. Combining elegance with a beautiful simplicity of line, the Texas Firefly flies wonderfully on standard 18mm black powder motors with a unique gap-staging design to enable reliable upper stage motor ignition. Brief: The Texas Firefly is a gap staged 18mm kit from Semroc. This kit exemplifies everything I love about Semroc: high quality, wide selection, low price, outstanding customer service. The rocket stands 14.3in and 1.34in diameter (ST-13 is slightly larger than BT-55 tubing). The total weight is 2.1oz. Construction: The assembly is so utterly straightforward that it hardly ...
