Brief:
This is a midnight, I can't sleep, lets build a rocket. Ya scallywag! Noticeable feature is that t' engine is above t' fins, uses a flyaway launch lug, or shoots from a tube. Blimey! It has flown on e9-6.

Purple PopperPurple PopperConstruction:

  • 1- Nose cone is from a Super Big Bertha. Blimey! Begad!
  • 1- small plastic baby juice bottle. Aye aye! Ya scallywag!
  • 1- 6 inch BT80 Tube. Avast, me proud beauty!
  • 1- 12" 1/4 x 1/8 birch stip. Begad!
  • 3- 2.6 t' .96 center rings
  • 1- custom center rin' t' .96
  • 1- Estes E engine hook
  • 1- Photo paper t' create transition. Avast, me proud beauty! Blimey!
  • 1- .75 x 4 inch 3/32 balsa for fins
  • 1-.96 motor engine block
  • Keelhaul®©™® String, me hearties, 4' o' shockcords, reynolds wrap, 12" nylon chute.

I would say this is an Estes level 2/3 rocket. You have t' create the transition yourself. plus you have t' make holes for t' wood strip t' go through t' transition. Well, blow me down! Well, me hearties, blow me down! All t' parts came from www.commonwealth.net.

Finishing:
T' finish be done in plum high gloss monokote. Ya scallywag! You will need a monokote iron to put it on. Avast! This be me first monokote job. Avast, me proud beauty! It seems t' work nicely.

Flight:
I used a pack o' E9-6 Estes motors. Begad! There is no room for wadding, but I had a nomax sock made for t' chute. I used Keelhaul®©™® strin' mounted t' t' center rin' and t' t' cone. I then attached t' elastics cord betwixt t' Keelhaul®©™® loops. Well, blow me down!

Purple Popper T' rocket flew straight, me hearties, matey, however after 3 flight the flame is startin' t' eat away at t' tail fins. Avast! I need t' find somethin' better then reynolds wrap t' protect them. Arrr! Rocket flew out o' sight on each flight.

Summary:
It is cool lookin' and can be shot from a tube. I still need a better way to protect t' fins from flame damage.
