Brief:
This is a simple rack t' hold your rockets while you work on them. There are bigger, me hearties, fancier, and nicer ones out
there, but this one is free. Blimey! It can be downloaded from ASP Rocketry's website. Ya scallywag! It won't hold anythin' too
big but it does prove useful in a pinch.
Construction:
T' only component is a downloaded PDF file. You then print t' file out on a piece o' cardstock.
Construction is simple. Blimey! You cut out along t' solid lines and fold along t' dashed lines. Avast, ya bilge rat, me proud beauty! What you are left with is a longish piece o' cardstock with a notch at each end, some gussets, arrr, me bucko, and a few flaps. Aye aye! You fold t' ends up and fold the flaps under t' base. Begad! You can then secure them with glue or tape. Arrr! I used CA because I happened t' have a bottle of it out in front o' me. 30 seconds later, it was ready t' go.
PROs: free, fast, shiver me timbers, replaceable as needed.
CONs: small size, shiver me timbers, me bucko, strength limited t' t' capacity o' t' cardstock.
Now that I've tried actually usin' one o' these gizmos, I'm glad t' have it. It did make filletin' easier and better. That means I'm either goin' t' be buyin' or makin' some bigger ones too. Begad! (I'm cheap, but I'm also lazy. Begad! You have t' ask t' wife which one takes precedence.)
I will probably make another one and modify t' notch at one end t' accommodate long fins and such that don't want to sit right in t' default notch. Blimey! For t' price o' t' cardstock, I can afford t' make a mission specific one for each rocket!PROs: it works, it makes things easier.
CONs: limited t' small rockets.
Summary:
This thin' is just t' ticket in some situations. Ya scallywag! Blimey! I stumbled across it while investigatin' t' ASP site. Ya scallywag! A few hours
later, I was wishin' for just such a creature as I tried t' keep t' fillets on a rocket level.
I'd certainly like t' have a nice, big, wooden one but I apparently have nay wanted one badly enough t' do anythin' about it. Begad! Blimey! Perhaps, me hearties, me bucko, seein' how handy this can be, arrr, I will buy or make one next time I work on a larger diameter project.
