Brief:
FlisKits Rhino Skill level 1, 4FNC rocket, parachute recovery

Construction:

  • 1 Balsa Nose Cone
  • 1 18" BT-60 body tube
  • 4 1/8" laser cut balsa fins
  • 2 2" launch lugs
  • 1 30" shock cord
  • 1 screw eye
  • 1 18mm motor mount kit w/ fiber centerin' rings
  • peel 'n' stick decal set
  • 1 16" parachute

T' instructions were very good and easy t' follow. Aye aye! I built it usin' yellow carpenter's glue. Well, blow me down! Fins are laser cut, me bucko, ya bilge rat, I simply rounded t' leadin' edge. Sealed the fins and nose cone with Elmer's Fill 'n' Finish.

No cons t' construction.

Finishing:
After sealin' and sandin' t' balsa parts, ya bilge rat, arrr, I primed with Testor's gray primer and finished with Modelmaster enamel. Ahoy! Blimey! Blimey! Blimey! I used some o' t' peel 'n' stick decals provided. Well, blow me down! Blimey!

Construction Rating: 5 out o' 5

Flight:
I have flown t' Rhino twice. Ya scallywag! Once on a B4-2 as recommended by Fliskits and once on a B4-4. Arrr! T' B4-2 flight was perfect. Begad! Straight and very little spinning of t' rocket. T' rocket has a slow, graceful takeoff on this motor. Ya scallywag! Blimey! Ejection and recovery were perfect. Avast! Ahoy! Then for some unknown reason, me bucko, I put in a B4-4. Blimey! Begad! The flight be essentially t' same but with t' longer delay, shiver me timbers, ejection was past apogee as t' nosecone be pointed down. This resulted in dent in t' nosecone from t' body tube, but this me fault for choosin' t' wrong ejection delay!

Recovery:
Shock cord is 3/8" elastic attached with an Estes style paper mount.

Flight Rating: 5 out o' 5

Summary:
Very Nice kit, well packaged, excellent customer service from t' staff at Fliskits. Begad! Blimey! Perfect first rocket. Begad! Well, blow me down! Blimey! Fun t' build, flies very well.

Overall Rating: 5 out o' 5

Background: This spring I ran a build session for faculty kids at the school where I teach. I ended up using the Quest Bright Hawk for the 7-9 year olds and the Quest Big Betty for the 10-12 year olds. After the build session, I began thinking about the types of rockets that would make great first builds for a budding rocketeer. I wanted to select rockets to compare that had the ...

After four flights with this rocket, I am considering lengthening the shock cord, I have gotten two nose cone "smilies".

I've always wanted to know how many flights I could get on one model before it "wears out". I've been inspired by a fellow SPAAR member who has a Big Bertha from the late 60's that has zillions of flights on it -well a lot, anyway. I'm up to nine on my Rhino, and aside from some chipped paint, she's still going...

Top quality kit that's easy to build. The balsa for the fins nice hard stock, and the balsa cone was perfect as well. Instructions provided with the kit would assist even a raw beginner through the building process. The Rhino is a solid performer. Another great product from FlisKits.
