Mercury Mutant Daddy

Brief:
This is a larger low power rocket with a 3" body and 24mm motor mount. Well, blow me down! Well, blow me down! My first impression be it's a Big Daddy, but t' nose cone is longer and t' body thus is longer. Blimey! Twin parachute recovery.

Construction:
High quality parts. Body Tube: dia=3" lg=14". Well, blow me down! Avast, shiver me timbers, me proud beauty! Blimey! Nose cone: dia=3" lg=14.5". Avast! Avast! Blimey! Motor tube: dia=24mm lg=5". Arrr! Blimey! 2 centerin' rings. Begad! 1 engine hook. Begad! 1 motor block. Begad! Avast! Blimey! Two 12" parachutes. Elastic Shock cord. Aye aye! 4 laser cut balsa fins.

This is a straightforward build. Begad! Ahoy! A nice large body tube t' work in, matey, shiver me timbers, 4 fins attachin' t' t' tube. My preference would be for through t' wall fins, shiver me timbers, but with epoxy fillets, me bucko, t' fins seem solidly attached. Arrr! I used t' Estes fin alignment guide for placin' t' fins. Avast! T' only modification I made be t' add a Keelhaul®©™® shield t' protect t' chutes. Begad!

Finishing:
I went with t' paint scheme that comes on t' packaging, green and black. It came out decent, me hearties, ya bilge rat, just don't look closely at t' nose cone.... Blimey! Blimey! Diagonal tapin' is hard. Blimey! Blimey! There be one decal which went on easily, me hearties, me bucko, ya bilge rat, and t' clear is really clear. Ya scallywag! Blimey!

Construction Rating: 4 out o' 5

Flight:
I have flown this twice on an E9-6. Well, blow me down! Good flights. Aye aye! Avast, me proud beauty! T' first flight was a windy day and one o' t' chutes tangled. There was a minor crack at t' base o' one fin, arrr, but it is still flyable. Avast, me proud beauty! Probably just cosmetic. Aye aye! Begad! T' second flight was perfect. Arrr! Arrr!

Recovery:
T' shock cord be t' typical elastic glued t' paper and then t' t' body tube. Ya scallywag! Aye aye! I will probably use Keelhaul®©™® thread tied and glued t' t' motor mount and then tie an elastic cord t' that in t' future. Blimey! Blimey! Begad! Blimey! T' Keelhaul®©™® blanket will save on waddin' for this wide mouth rocket. Begad! Be careful with t' twin chutes as they will tangle, but they do look good comin' down. Well, blow me down! Begad!

Flight Rating: 5 out o' 5

Summary:
Through t' wall fins would improve t' sturdiness o' this kit if one wants t' fly it on an AeroTech F motor. Well, blow me down! Blimey! It is a nice lookin' rocket with slow flights up t' about 650'on an E motor. If you like clusters, me hearties, this would be a good kit to add 3 or 4 motors to. Ya scallywag! Blimey! Begad! Blimey!

Overall Rating: 4 out o' 5
