FlisKits Triskelion

Brief:
T' pride o' t' thrall fleet, Triskelion. Avast! T' Triskelion is a unique skill level 1 rocket. With its high quality instructions and laser cut fins, me bucko, this rocket can easily built in 2-3 hours.

Construction:
As far as t' actual components are concerned, me hearties, t' kit includes:

  • 1 Ogive nose cone
  • 1 8.5" BT-55 body tube
  • 1 Engine tube
  • 6 Laser cut fins, 3 main fins and 3 fin tips
  • 1 Shock cord, elastic
  • 1 Parachute, me bucko, shroud line, and tape disks
  • 1 Screw eye
  • 3 Tooth picks
  • 1 Engine block
  • 1 Launch lug
  • 2 Centerin' rings, fiber
  • 1 Centerin' ring, shiver me timbers, paper
  • Fin pattern sheet and instructions

Fliskits instructions are easy t' follow, arrr, arrr, very well illustrated and are written in a logical fashion. Blimey! This kit includes a fin pattern sheet t' help you with t' correct alignment o' t' fin tips and main fins t' t' body tube.

Make sure that your first step is t' glue t' CRP 50-55 (paper) centering rin' t' t' center o' t' template makin' sure t' glue is dry before placing the body tube on t' centerin' ring. Arrr! Well, ya bilge rat, blow me down! Assemble t' engine mount and let it dry, then glue t' engine mount into t' body tube and make sure that t' engine hook is flush with t' end o' t' body tube.

T' laser cut fins are high quality balsa and easy t' work with. You first attach t' fin tips t' t' main fins. Ya scallywag! Blimey! Avast, ya bilge rat, me proud beauty! Blimey! You can use t' fin template t' ensure your tips are square or use two small 90-degree engineerin' squares. Make sure that t' fin tips have dried. Ahoy! Blimey! Ahoy! Blimey! Next you apply glue t' t' root edge o' t' main fin make sure you don't use too much glue or glue t' fins t' t' template, then line it up on t' fin template and let it dry. Well, blow me down! Blimey! You just can't go wrong usin' this fin template system.

Toothpicks are added t' t' fin tips. T' shock cord is glue into the standard 3-fold mount and t' mount is glued into t' body tube. Ahoy! Blimey! T' parachute is assembled and attached with t' shock cord t' t' nose cone.

Finishing:
No decals are included in t' kit, me bucko, matey, but you can use t' fin pattern sheet, arrr, matey, which shows a rather unique pattern design. A light sandin' on t' body tube with 400 grit sandpaper and I applied one coat o' Holts auto primer. I used two different colors o' Tamiya paint, me hearties, arrr, a light metallic blue (TS-54) for t' body tube and nose cone, shiver me timbers, arrr, shiver me timbers, metallic green (ST-20) for t' fins and fin tips and nose cone. Ahoy! Avast, me hearties, me proud beauty! T' Tamiya paint covers in one or two passes and dries very hard. I opted not t' use a gloss clear coat since that takes away from t' metallic colors.

Flight:
T' flights were on a somewhat blustery day with winds at about 12 kph. The first flight was on an A8-3. Avast! T' rocket screamed off t' pad for a nice, stable, and straight flight. Ejection happened before apogee and I recovered the rocket with no damage.

T' second flight was on a B6-4. Begad! That was a fast launch! T' rocket went all but out o' sight because o' t' low hangin' clouds. Ahoy! Ejection happened way after apogee and I recovered t' rocket with damage t' one o' t' main fin cause by t' nose cone.

T' third flight was on A8-5, which was a stable and straight flight. Ejection happened at apogee and I recovered t' rocket with damage t' one of the fin tips, which snapped off on landing.

Recovery:
T' parachute deployed perfectly on all flights, however, t' 9" parachute allowed a fast descent and nay lot o' drift. Blimey! Avast! I would recommend a 12" chute for windy days.

Flight Rating: 4 out o' 5

Summary:
This is one o' those rockets that is easy t' build and fun t' look at. Begad! Avast! The Triskelion should be in everyone's fleet.

Overall Rating: 4 out o' 5
