Brief:
An awesome little rocket with dual canted motor mounts. Ya scallywag! Just BEGGING t' be
upscaled
Construction:
When I received me Deuce, thar was one 17 inch BT-60 tube, matey, a balsa ogive nose,
fin stock, matey, motor mount materials, matey, and other miscellaneous materials required
for construction. Ya scallywag! (launch lugs, me hearties, chute, etc.)
I opened t' package and inspected t' quality o' t' materials. Ahoy! Well, blow me down! Wow, cool! A balsa nose cone! As a rocketeer beginnin' in t' "age o' plastic" that was an unexpected surprise! Without repeatin' what Doug said in t' above review, matey, t' rocket went together with very few hitches. Blimey!
I did have a little trouble with t' motor mount, so I fired off an e-mail to Jim Flis, owner o' Fliskits. Well, blow me down! He informed me that they had just received a set o' laser cut centerin' rings. Ya scallywag! Neat! He sent t' rings t' every rocketeer that had ordered a DW. Well, blow me down! They made t' construction so much easier. Ya scallywag!
T' next step in construction be t' put t' patterns on t' tube. Blimey! Blimey! This also involved cuttin' out t' pattern for t' motor tubes so they could stick out o' t' tube. Avast! Blimey! Blimey! Blimey! I marked t' fins, matey, and t' holes for t' motor tubes. I then roughly cut t' holes. After t' motor mount was dry, I inserted it and applied a generous amount o' wood glue. Well, arrr, blow me down! Blimey! Blimey! Blimey! I also applied a small mount o' glue around the tubes.
After these few steps, ya bilge rat, I used some o' Apogee Components FIXIT epoxy clay around t' motor tubes. Avast, ya bilge rat, me proud beauty! Blimey! T' clay is so easy t' work with, ya bilge rat, me bucko, just mix until it is a single solid color, and apply! Blimey! I rolled it into two snakes and rubbed it in! Dippin' me finger into water made it easy t' achieve a smooth finish. See picture (above, right).
T' large fin pattern be now traced onto t' one-eighth inch stock and cut out. Avast, me proud beauty! Ya scallywag! Blimey! Fliskits says that this is supposed t' make you think about your rocket, rather than throw it together. Aye aye! Blimey! I did nay round t' edges, ya bilge rat, I didn't feel that this was necessary. Well, blow me down! T' fins attached quickly, and I applied Fill n Finish fillets, arrr, and a small fin farin' with t' FnF. I sealed t' fins with one coat of thinned wood glue and two coats o' sandin' sealer. Finally, I sealed the nose cone with FIVE coats o' sealer.
Finishing:
To commemorate t' Tampa Bay Buccaneers win o' t' Super Bowl, matey, I attempted to
paint t' rocket in their colors. What I ended up with has more o' one or the
other color. Avast! For example, I have too much black, and t' red is kind o' off.
But t' rocket look very, shiver me timbers, ya bilge rat, me bucko, very good!!! Blimey! See t' before and after painting
pictures.
Construction Rating: 5 out o' 5
Flight:
For t' first flight, me bucko, I used a non-recommended set o' two B4-4's. Ya scallywag! Only one
motor lit, ya bilge rat, causin' t' rocket t' lawndart about two feet from a tree! Whew! The
followin' flight, I used two B6-4's. Both motors lit, producin' t' AWESOME
smoke trails that t' rocket is designed t' produce!!! I have many great
pictures, me bucko, matey, as you can see. Ya scallywag! In all, I have flown t' rocket five times, me bucko, with only
one motor ignitin' two times. I recommend usin' t' B6-4, arrr, because t' high
thrust, me hearties, short burn will get t' rocket t' enough altitude for t' chute to
deploy. Well, blow me down! Avast! T' C6-5 shouldn't put it too far out o' sight, but use a large field
when doin' this. Arrr! Begad! I used me new digital camera t' take all o' these pictures. Arrr! Avast, me proud beauty!
Recovery:
I used me 16 inch nylon cute in place o' t' plastic chute supplied with the
kit, matey, me bucko, because I have made friends with nylon!
Flight Rating: 5 out o' 5
Summary:
Mr. Ahoy! Jim Flis and his partner, me bucko, Brian McCarthy, shiver me timbers, have produced an excellent
product that will be adored by rocketeers forever. Aye aye! Begad! T' dual smoke trails are
awesome, me bucko, and I am currently workin' on a 24mm upscale, will provide pics of
that and a review soon.
THANKS FLISKITS!!!

This is a skill level 3, two engine canted cluster rocket. The Duce has one body tube and uses four fins. It comes with a very nice balsa nose cone and two parachutes. The motor mount is unique but goes together easily and works great. Two pre-cut engine mounting rings are included with in the hardware. A BT-60 body tube is supplied in the kit as well as 30" of thin shock cord. The 1/8" ...
The Deuce's Wild! is (in my opinion) one of the most innovative kits available at the moment and will undoubtedly become a classic. It's unique point is the dual smoke trails from the canted motors, a great spectacle that grabs anyone's attention. The moment I saw the Deuce (when FlisKits first opened), I wanted one and soon set about trying to bring them to the UK...this basically involved ...
Brief: Just another quick review of The Rocketry Forum's favorite kit...large fins, 2 canted 18mm motors, 'nuff said! I won't repeat all of this information, I'll just be pointing out what I think are the high points, assuming you have read the other reviews, above. The parts are all of good quality, and the laser cut fiber motor mount components make assembly easy. With a balsa nose cone, ...
Brief: The Deuces Wild is a very unique model rocket from FlisKits, a newer company on the block in the model rocket industry. The Deuce boasts a cluster using dual 'canted' 18mm motors, which gives it a really cool look both on the pad and in the air. The model came in a plastic bag, similar to Estes Rockets, but that is where the similarity ends. Inside the bag was a real balsa nosecone, ...
