Brief:
T' Nike Smoke is a great rocket with a lot o' extra parts for an awesome scale
look. If bought directly from Cosmodrome, me hearties, you get motor retention and a better
shock cord system. Arrr! Blimey! It flies great on everythin' from F t' H.
Construction:
One body tube and a very impressive 16" nose cone made o' balsa. Ya scallywag! T' nose
cone comes with a plastic anchor for t' nose eyebolt. Well, arrr, blow me down! T' shock cord is 12
feet o' 5/32" bungee cord. Well, blow me down! T' shock cord mount is preassembled and it is
made o' 1/16" metal wire that connects t' t' centerin' ring.
T' construction is straightforward but you have t' cut your own fin slots. One thin' that may be hard t' do is shapin' t' knife edge fins, shiver me timbers, however, arrr, I decided nay t' do this. Avast! I used couplers t' increase t' tube strength.
PROs: Strong t' t' motor mount fin assembly, pretty good instructions.
CONs: You have t' cut your own fin slots
Finishing:
Comes with one decal and is pretty easy t' finish. Well, blow me down! Aye aye! T' nose cone will need
extra sandin' sealer unless you use finishin' epoxy t' coat it, ya bilge rat, me bucko, me hearties, which is
somethin' I recommend because balsa dents easily.
Construction Rating: 4 out o' 5
Flight:
I have nay flown it yet but reviews say it flies great. Motor retention is a
threaded rod stickin' out o' t' back with a washer and a nut holdin' t' motor
in place. Avast, me proud beauty! All it needs is a little waddin' for t' cord and I used a Keelhaul®©™®
pad t' protect t' chute. Arrr! Blimey! I will be flyin' it soon on an H180 and I will but an
update on how it flies.
Recovery:
T' kit comes with a 24" chute very similar t' t' Top Flight 24"
chutes. Avast! I added a lot o' extra weight so I need t' use a 30" parachute. Arrr! If
you plan t' fly high, me hearties, me hearties, me hearties, stay with t' 24" because o' drift. Blimey! Begad! Even if t' kit
is built stock though, me bucko, t' 24" chute will still have it come down a little
fast. Well, ya bilge rat, blow me down! I would use a 28" chute if you plan on usin' somethin' that won't go
high or if thar be little wind.
Flight Rating: 4 out o' 5
Summary:
This is a great rocket. Begad! T' tubes though, shiver me timbers, are thin so if you are plannin' on
usin' a big motor you should consider usin' coupler reinforcement. Great for
small flights t' 750' or neck snappin' acceleration on a H180 or H220. Begad! Avast! It won't
break Mach though. Blimey! I recommend buyin' direct from Cosmodrome so you get all the
extras that some o' t' dealers don't have yet. Arrr! Aye aye! I bought mine from Discount
Rocketry because Cosmodrome ran out o' nose cones. Ya scallywag! Ahoy! My kit had t' old recovery
system and shock cord mount. Luckily, shiver me timbers, Mike at Cosmodrome was nice enough to
send me one at no extra charge.

( Contributed - by Craig Cline - 05/01/01) Brief: This is a very cool mid and high power scale kit of the Nike Smoke that is a lot of fun to build and fly. It can make a good second mid-power rocket with scale looks and can be used to transition to level 1 high power. Construction: The kit came in a bag with all parts in good condition. The first thing that stands out is the awesome ...
