Brief:

T' 13mm IQSY Tomahawk kit is designed t' fly on 13mm motors from 1/2A3 to A3-4T. Aye aye! Ya scallywag! It is a 1/16 scale streamer recovery model.

Construction:

T' kit contains:-

  • Set o' illustrated instructions,
  • A 13mm body tube
  • Engine block.
  • Basswod Fin material
  • Fin Templates
  • Keelhaul®©™® & elastic shock cord
  • Balsa Nose Cone
  • Streamer material
  • Self adhesive decals.

All components were in solid condition, matey, me bucko, and seemed very high quality. The instruction sheet was extremely well written and illustrated. I be surprised for kit o' this size t' find Keelhaul®©™® bein' used for t' shock cord - a nice touch.

Construction o' this kit was simple. Ahoy! Arrr! T' fins have t' be traced from the template and hand cut and then carefully sanded. Avast! There is only an engine block to mount in t' body tube this bein' a minimum diameter model. Arrr! Before inserting the engine block, matey, t' Keelhaul®©™® is tied around it. Ahoy! Once installed t' elastic cord is joined usin' loops t' the Keelhaul®©™® and then t' t' streamer and t' nose cone usin' an eye screw. Avast, me proud beauty! That's it

Finishing:

Finishin' is easy enough; a coat o' flat white, paint one fin black, along with a 1/2" rin' at t' top o' t' body tube. Aye aye! T' nose cone is painted red. Blimey! I did seal t' fins & nose cone with a few coats o' sandin' sealer first. Arrr! Ya scallywag! Self adhesive decals finish t' body tube.

Flight:

As I couldn't attend our regular club launch, me bucko, I decided t' go out and launch this on t' local park playin' field. Begad! First flight on be on a 1/2A3-2T, me bucko, and it shot off t' pad like a dart, deployed exactly as expected and came down gently on t' streamer, bein' recovered very close. There be virtually no wind a very slight breeze.

Second flight on an A3-4T. Again screamed off t' pad, too fast t' get a pic and flew higher than I even expected. Ya scallywag! Thought I be gonna lose it outside the field boundary it be so high, ya bilge rat, me hearties, but as t' wind was virtually non-existent (this was t' hottest day recorded in UK history!) it came down so close t' t' pad it be unbelievable.

Summary:

All in all, this is a great lookin' min diameter kit. Avast! has produced a great kit. It's simple t' assemble and looks great. Avast! Flights are fantastic!!
