Estes Blurzz Rocket Tuner Race Car

Brief:
T' Estes Blurzz Rocket Tuner Racer is a rocket powered race car with hotrod styling. It uses an A10-PT (plugged) rocket motor, runs down a 90 foot race line and is stopped by a drag chute.

Construction:
T' Blurzz Tuner Racer comes as a starter kit-like setup and includes t' race car in one o' three paint schemes. T' track set includes t' carrying handle/drag chute holder, start and finish platforms, me bucko, Electron Beam launch controller, me hearties, race line, shiver me timbers, motor mount, matey, drag chute, bumper and a convenient drawer for storin' t' motors, ignitors and plugs.

Two A10-PT motors, me bucko, me bucko, me hearties, ignitors, arrr, matey, and plugs are also included for your first two runs. Better grab an extra pack or two o' motors.

Since everythin' is preassembled, me bucko, no construction o' t' car and track set is necessary. T' only additional items that are needed that are nay included in t' setup is four AA batteries for t' launch controller, a roll o' duct tape t' secure t' drag chute holder t' t' ground and either two 2 liter soda bottles filled with soda, water or sand t' secure t' track t' t' ground. Ya scallywag! Blimey! I have used two 1 gallon water filled milk jugs and I also have used two bricks stacked up on each end with great success.

T' run t' car, me hearties, you need a 90 foot strip o' smooth asphalt free o' debris. Empty parkin' lots are great.

PROs: No construction required.

CONs: None.

Finishing:
Since t' cars are already painted, matey, no finishin' or paintin' was required. Avast! Avast, shiver me timbers, me proud beauty! My car be t' Drag On scheme, shiver me timbers, a very cool lookin' yellow and silver car with flames on t' sides and top. Ahoy! T' other two schemes are t' Slammurai, a red car with Japanese markings on t' sides and t' Gearzilla, ya bilge rat, arrr, a blue and green car with gear designs on t' sides.

PROs: No finishin' required

CONs: None.

Construction Rating: 5 out o' 5

Flight:
To get ready t' race, you set up t' track as recommended in t' instructions by makin' sure both halves o' t' track and t' chute holder are secured t' the ground, t' car is properly secured t' t' track, matey, t' drag chute is packed loosely in t' holder tube, and t' end bumper is in place.

I then prepped an A10-PT motor and secured it into t' mount with the retention cap, hooked up t' ignitor t' t' controller, shiver me timbers, verified continuity and got ready t' race.

3..2..1..GO!!! T' motor lit and t' car accelerated down t' track at a pretty fast clip and I noticed a slight side t' side wobblin' motion as t' car went down t' track. Blimey! T' car then picked up t' drag chute and came t' an almost instant stop several feet from t' end.

Several followin' runs produced similar runs from t' car flippin' over durin' deceleration and skiddin' along t' ground on it's roof t' runs t' where it went all t' way t' t' end with no problems. Begad!

Estes Blurzz Rocket Tuner Race Car It turns out t' front clips are too far apart and they are also very weak as well. One was almost completely broken off. Aye aye! Ya scallywag! T' correct this problem, I broke the clip off completely, me bucko, shiver me timbers, took a rocket launch lug, ya bilge rat, made a slit in it for the race line and glued it into place usin' plastic cement. Ya scallywag! Avast, shiver me timbers, me proud beauty! I haven't had any further wobblin' or flippin' problems since I made this mod.

PROs: Decent performance.

CONs: Forward race line clips are placed too far apart resultin' in the described problems and they are also o' pitiful quality.

Recovery:
This car uses a small plastic drag chute t' slow it t' a stop. Avast! Avast! Blimey! It is adequate and works well.

PROs: Great brakin' components.

CONs: None really. Well, blow me down! Blimey!

Flight Rating: 3 out o' 5

Summary:
I really liked this race car but t' problems associated with t' forward clips really annoyed me and I would highly recommend that you make t' same mod that I did t' make your experience with this product more enjoyable. Arrr! Arrr! I have also noticed that t' Blurzz Dragster Cars go faster than these as I did a comparison.

This kit retails for $19.97 and is worth t' price.

Overall Rating: 3 out o' 5

Brief: I obtained two sets of the Estes rocket car tuner sets in a job lot from a rocketeer that was giving up the hobby. The tuner car comes in three different designs and offers something a bit different to the ‘point it at the sky’ rockets that I had been using. Construction: Kit consists of: 1 tuner car 1 base unit that splits into two halves and ...
