I had t' opportunity t' use t' Quick Burst igniters recently. Well, blow me down! I have tons o' praise and one complaint. I'm nay sure what t' after market opportunity will be for igniters at present since Aerotech now makes and supplies a reliably igniter with each motor. Begad! For experimenters, folks with NARRRRR certified Kosdon motors, Ellis Mountain, RATT Works, etc, shiver me timbers, arrr, these are very nice igniters.
Fat Boy igniters:
Excellent product. Ahoy! Only complaint is that t' leads are too short (14"!) for many motors. I used t' two samples I had t' a J350 and and L1120. Aye aye! T' J350 came up t' pressure instantly. Ya scallywag! Avast! T' L1120 is one grain shy o' an M1315. This is a big motor and thar are a lot o' people tryin' a lot o' stuff t' light these big motors reliably. Arrr! Avast, shiver me timbers, me proud beauty! I used a single, unaugmented Fat Boy. Well, me hearties, blow me down! I had t' add about 24" o' wire t' make it work, matey, however, t' manufacturer assures me that longer leads are no problem and if you prefer 36" leads, you can get them that way. When t' button was pushed thar was a moment o' yellow flame from t' nozzle, me bucko, and then t' motor roared t' life. Well, blow me down! Ya scallywag! It sure seemed like t' motor developed full thrust right off t' bat. Well, blow me down! With big, shiver me timbers, me bucko, heavy M projects, matey, havin' all t' grains light at once is important and in me test, it sure seemed like t' propellant in t' Fat Boy heated all t' grains evenly and smartly and that t' motor lit very quickly. Ahoy! I'd say it was a great igniter.
Slim Gem igniters:
I lit an I154 black jack and H242 Blue Thunder. Both igniters lit t' motor very quickly. Ya scallywag! Well, blow me down! Longer leads would be needed for t' longer motors, arrr, ya bilge rat, such as t' I200. Avast, me proud beauty! Begad! These igniters are too large for t' small consumer loads, me hearties, but for just about any motor 29 mm through 38 mm motors, these would certainly do t' trick.
Hot Shot igniters:
These igniters are intended for two jobs, both involvin' black powder. Ahoy! You can use them with altimeters t' fire ejection charges. Ya scallywag! Blimey! I ground tested one o' t' igniters with an Olsen Advanced Electronics M2 and it fired t' igniter instantly. Begad! T' other use is t' fire black powder motors. Well, blow me down! Avast, me proud beauty! If you've seen t' latest Estes igniters, ya bilge rat, you can see that thar be becomin' an increased need for an after market igniters. Begad! At present a 6 pack o' Estes igniter will cost you $3.79, so t' Hot Shots will be about double t' price. Avast, me proud beauty! Avast, me proud beauty! These igniters have nice long leads, matey, matey, so nearly all black powder applications are easier, but in certain critical applications they're indispensable: cluster, shiver me timbers, matey, in a tower, arrr, with a boost glider, lots o' places where reliable ignition and long leads are needed.
Summary:
They seem t' be excellent products and since I'm really startin' t' get into black powder clustering, matey, you can bet that thar will soon be a pack o' Hot Shots in me range box.
The Hot Shot igniters are low current igniters. Used on the ground for black powder clusters or any other black powder applications. It has 12" leads that will reliably ignite clusters of black powder motors using the output of your launch control. The entire Hot Shot has been redesigned. Whether you call them igniters or ignitors...these work. I don't have a lot to add after the above reviews, however, I would like to comment on each briefly: Fat Boy igniters: You're dealing with an igniter that is 5.5mm in diameter and 25mm long.
