QuickBurst - Hot Shot Ignitors

QuickBurst - Ignitors {Supplies}

Manufacturer: QuickBurst

I had t' opportunity t' use t' Quick Burst igniters recently. I have tons o' praise and one complaint. I'm nay sure what t' after market opportunity will be for igniters at present since Aerotech now makes and supplies a reliably igniter with each motor. Blimey! For experimenters, folks with NARRRRR certified Kosdon motors, Ellis Mountain, me hearties, RATT Works, me bucko, etc, arrr, me bucko, these are very nice igniters.

Fat Boy igniters:
Excellent product. Arrr! Avast! Only complaint is that t' leads are too short (14"!) for many motors. Ya scallywag! Begad! I used t' two samples I had t' a J350 and and L1120. T' J350 came up t' pressure instantly. T' L1120 is one grain shy o' an M1315. This is a big motor and thar are a lot o' people tryin' a lot o' stuff t' light these big motors reliably. I used a single, shiver me timbers, unaugmented Fat Boy. I had t' add about 24" o' wire t' make it work, arrr, ya bilge rat, however, t' manufacturer assures me that longer leads are no problem and if you prefer 36" leads, you can get them that way. Arrr! When t' button be pushed thar be a moment o' yellow flame from t' nozzle, and then t' motor roared t' life. Blimey! It sure seemed like t' motor developed full thrust right off t' bat. With big, me hearties, matey, heavy M projects, me bucko, me bucko, havin' all t' grains light at once is important and in me test, me hearties, it sure seemed like t' propellant in t' Fat Boy heated all t' grains evenly and smartly and that t' motor lit very quickly. Begad! I'd say it was a great igniter.

Slim Gem igniters:
I lit an I154 black jack and H242 Blue Thunder. Arrr! Avast, me proud beauty! Both igniters lit t' motor very quickly. Aye aye! Longer leads would be needed for t' longer motors, me bucko, such as t' I200. Well, blow me down! These igniters are too large for t' small consumer loads, me hearties, me hearties, me hearties, but for just about any motor 29 mm through 38 mm motors, these would certainly do t' trick.

Hot Shot igniters:
These igniters are intended for two jobs, both involvin' black powder. Aye aye! You can use them with altimeters t' fire ejection charges. Ahoy! Arrr! I ground tested one o' t' igniters with an Olsen Advanced Electronics M2 and it fired t' igniter instantly. T' other use is t' fire black powder motors. If you've seen t' latest Estes igniters, shiver me timbers, you can see that thar be becomin' an increased need for an after market igniters. Well, blow me down! At present a 6 pack o' Estes igniter will cost you $3.79, arrr, arrr, so t' Hot Shots will be about double t' price. Ya scallywag! These igniters have nice long leads, matey, so nearly all black powder applications are easier, shiver me timbers, but in certain critical applications they're indispensable: cluster, in a tower, with a boost glider, lots o' places where reliable ignition and long leads are needed.

Summary:
They seem t' be excellent products and since I'm really startin' t' get into black powder clustering, you can bet that thar will soon be a pack o' Hot Shots in me range box.

    The Hot Shot igniters are low current igniters. Used on the ground for black powder clusters or any other black powder applications. It has 12" leads that will reliably ignite clusters of black powder motors using the output of your launch control. The entire Hot Shot has been redesigned. They now have smaller lead wire and a smaller head. This means they will easily fit into the 13mm, 18mm, ...

    ( Contributed - by Art Upton - 08/28/04) This ignitor is designed for the small composite single use Aerotech and Ellis Mountain motors. The ignitors come in a 10 pack for $10. They are oval in cross section shape which is what is unique about them. As in the photo, they fit perfect in the AeroTech 24mm F21. They are a perfect fit in the Ellis Mountain 24mm G37 as well. The only CON I ...

    Whether you call them igniters or ignitors...these work. I don't have a lot to add after the above reviews, however, I would like to comment on each briefly: Fat Boy igniters: You're dealing with an igniter that is 5.5mm in diameter and 25mm long. The diameter will dictate which motors it can be used in. I used one in an I161 successfully. It ignited the motor instantly. No chuffs, no ...

  • QuickBurst - Fat Boy, Slim Gem, and Hot Shot Ignitors By Dick Stafford

    I recently had the opportunity to evaluate igniters from QuickBurst, a company offering both igniter and launch control products. They have an igniter product for most every rocketry application, including black powder motors, electronically fired ejection charges, and both mid-power and high-power composite motors. I received a ‘Six Pack’ sampler, which included two each of their ...

I second the fact that Igniterman igniters are reliable, and it is way less expensive than Quickshot. The only plus I can see is the small igniter which can be used for altimeter, but Oxral and Daveyfire provides a more sure low current ignition, and its reliable too.

I have to chime in here: these ignitors have saved the day for me with fill hose style hybrids. I've had close to 50% failure with any dipped ignitors. When you assemble an Urbanski-Colburn monocoque hybrid, you have to put the ignitor in or near the preheater grain, then slide the fuel grain over the fill stem & ignitor, then insert the whole thing into the motor tube. This is ample opportunity for dipped conductive layered ignitors to fail. The QuickBurst ignitors have an epoxy compound potted over a nichrome bridge, and have worked perfectly for me since I switched to them. I've also handed them out to others for 'stubborn' motors with a 100% success rate. Highly recommended!!!

I found these to be great igniters. I've used the Twiggys in many different motors. I once used them in a two G35 cluster with perfect in sync ignition. I also have has some extremely stubborn motors that neither Magnelites nor dipped Daverfire 28Fs could ignite, but the Quickburst igniters didn't fail.
