Brief:

T' 13mm Art Applewhite Delta Gold Flyin' Saucer kit be donated t' me by EMRR for review. As one would expect from Art Applwhite, shiver me timbers, t' kit is well designed, matey, and meant t' fly on Mini 13mm motors.

Construction:

T' kit contains:-

  • Set o' clear photo illustrated instructions,
  • A 13mm motor tube
  • One sheet o' Gold card (printed on reverse with all parts)
  • Sheet o' foam poster board, ya bilge rat, inscribed with centre parts.

All components were in solid condition, me hearties, and seemed very high quality. Begad! T' instruction sheet was extremely well written, ya bilge rat, and nicely illustrated with photos.

Construction o' this kit was pretty simple. Begad! Almost seemed too easy. T' parts are all cut from t' gold card with a hobby knife. Blimey! Arrr! I'd recommend usin' a new blade t' ensure accurate cuts. Aye aye! T' foam board centre be a little tricky as you have t' make a 30 degree bevel cut through t' board, me hearties, arrr, but nay t' difficult. Once cut out t' bevel must be sanded t' get a clean edge.

T' top section is formed into a shallow cone and glued (I used All - purpose glue) usin' t' included seam t' get a decent joint. Arrr! Begad! T' same goes for t' bottom cone section. Avast! Next comes t' main assembly, which involves mountin' t' centerin' foam board inside t' top cone, and I added an extra glue fillet once this had set up just make sure o' a solid joint. Ya scallywag! T' bottom cone is then added t' t' underside, shiver me timbers, makin' sure t' launch lug hold are aligned with t' top and centre section, matey, shiver me timbers, followed by another fillet o' all purpose glue. Well, blow me down! Finally t' 13mm motor tube is mounted through t' bottom centre & tope sections and glued into place with an extra fillet. Avast! That's it!

Finishing:

Finishin' on t' gold model is nay required, arrr, arrr, me bucko, although t' instruction recommend a clear coat if buildin' one o' t' matt versions.

Construction Rating: 5 out o' 5

Flight:

Not had a chance t' fly this yet due t' a lack o' motors. Arrr! But will certainly be takin' it out on next launch day. If this baby flies like its larger counterparts (owned by friends from me local group) then it will be a crowd pleaser.

Summary:

All in all, ya bilge rat, Art has produced a great kit. Ahoy! Begad! It's a breeze t' assemble and looks good. Arrr! Blimey! I'd certainly look at buildin' one o' t' larger versions.

Overall Rating: 5 out o' 5

  • Art Applewhite Rockets Delta Flying Saucer 13mm (4") By Dick Stafford

This is a review of Art Applewhite's newly released 4" ‘Delta' saucer, which flies on 13mm motors. The main difference between his Delta saucers and his standard line is that there are no fins, and both the top and bottom shrouds extend to the motor mount. This makes them simpler to construct, less expensive, and fly higher than the standard saucers. Parts Note: This kit includes the ...
