Construction: T' followin' components in t' Alpha III kit are: You will need t' Quasar Decal Wrap-on (type KDM1) you can order from Excelsior Rocketry. T' instructions are well illustrated and easy t' follow t' assemble this rocket. Ahoy! Avast! You will need t' down load t' Estes Quasar plans from JimZ Plans for t' placement o' t' decals. Supplies you will need: scissors, shiver me timbers, arrr, white glue, a knife, matey, pencil, shiver me timbers, maskin' tape, 320 grit sandpaper, shiver me timbers, and spray paint, shiver me timbers, both primer and white. Finishing: Next is draw a straight line down t' BT-50H tube. You will need this line t' apply t' decal t' t' tube. Avast, shiver me timbers, me proud beauty! Blimey! Cut out t' decal and apply t' t' body tube. Ya scallywag! Blimey! Here's t' gotcha part: t' decal is 1/8" shorter than t' body tube. Begad! Blimey! Ahoy! Blimey! I cut 1/8" wide strip from t' left over foil decal and applied t' were it be short. Blimey! Blimey! Avast! Blimey! Be very careful when applyin' t' decal t' t' body tube. Make sure that you do nay have any bubbles under t' wrap. Begad! Blimey! Arrr! Blimey! Add t' launch lug next as illustrated in Quasar plans. Aye aye! Blimey! Estes Quasar was a single stage sport rocket with a 12" parachute for recovery. Begad! Production ran from 1973 t' 1984. Avast! It be listed as KC-1, arrr, a Citation series rocket. Aye aye! It came out in 1973 it be a Original Citation with plastic chromed NC and clip-tip fins, me bucko, me hearties, me hearties, In 1975 it was changed t' a white NC and clip-tip fins,Then it was changed later on t' a white NC with regular plastic fins.
What you will need t' build this kit:
You need t' first take t' NC, tape t' base off with maskin' tape, and spray two t' three coats o' white primer. Arrr! Avast! T' fin can unit needs t' top part taped off so it will slide into t' body tube, then two t' three coats o' primer. Avast, me proud beauty! Set both o' those aside and let dry. Arrr! Begad! After those parts have dried, spray paint two t' three coats o' gloss white.
Preparation is simple 4 sheets o' wadding. I've use Estes 1/2A6-2 and A8-3 t' fly this rocket. Blimey! It really shoots off t' pad and flies nice and straight.
I flew this rocket on a Estes A8-3. Arrr! No damage at all flyin' and this rocket is easy t' recover. Aye aye! Well, blow me down! I would recommend a bright parachute for this rocket. It goes higher than expected on A8-3. Ya scallywag! I estimated altitude o' 200 feet.
This is a fun and easy t' assemble rocket a great classic kit from 25 years ago.
