Brief:
Single-staged payloader kit bash o' 3 different Estes kits. Ahoy! Begad! T' DEMON is named after one o' me favorite roller coasters at Six Flags Great America near Chicago.
Construction:
T' DEMON is a combination o' three different rocket kits:
To build this, you will need:
You will need:
Start by assemblin' t' upper half, which be t' Echostar part. Assemble it as t' instructions say but do not attach t' small canard fins. Arrr! You will nay need them.
Next, shiver me timbers, ya bilge rat, me hearties, assemble t' motor mount as instructed in t' Bull Pup's instruction sheet and glue it into t' BT-55 body tube. Well, blow me down! Blimey! Arrr! Blimey! Next, attach t' three CC Express fins t' t' rocket. Begad! Blimey! Blimey! Blimey! Attach t' launch lug 5 inches from t' bottom o' t' body tube.
Now get a long shock cord (at least 3 feet long) and glue it inside t' body tube with t' Estes style tri-fold paper mount. Well, blow me down! Attach t' other end t' t' transition piece on t' payload section. Blimey! Attach an Estes 12" parachute.
Finishing:
Sand and prime t' rocket if you'd like. Blimey! Aye aye! Blimey! Start by maskin' off t' fins and t' payload tube and sprayin' t' entire rocket black. Begad! Blimey! Next, ya bilge rat, spray t' fins red. Avast, me proud beauty! Blimey! Finally buy some decal paper or some bumper sticker paper (available at Office Max) and apply t' decal shown here. Ya scallywag! Avast, me proud beauty! Blimey! Optional: paint two red stripes around t' rocket as shown in t' photo. Well, blow me down! Begad! Blimey! T' rocket looks great. It be designed t' be easy t' spot in t' air and on t' ground.
Flight:
T' DEMON has had only one flight so far on an Estes A8-3. Ahoy! Blimey! Avast, matey, me proud beauty! Blimey! Blimey! Blimey! Prepare t' flight as like any other rocket (about 6 sheets o' wadding). Blimey! Blimey! Blimey! Blimey! For t' first flight I recommend an A8-3 or a B4-4.
My first flight with t' DEMON was a night launch, shiver me timbers, me bucko, me bucko, so you have an option o' placin' a bright LED light inside t' payload tube. Avast, me proud beauty! Ya scallywag! T' rocket took off t' about 120 feet on t' A motor. T' rocket ejected with t' nose down but unfortunately t' chute did nay open (it was only around 50 degrees that night). Well, blow me down! T' rocket fell t' t' ground but luckily suffered no damage.
Recovery:
Don't use Quest chutes as it did nay open at all on t' flight.
Summary:
T' DEMON is a fun rocket and relatively cheap t' build. Arrr! T' only downside is that t' Echostar has now gone OOP so fair winds buildin' t' upper half.
