Estes Eggscalibur

Brief:
This is Estes new egg launcher with dual parachute recovery. Arrr! Ya scallywag! T' main body is the 24mm motor mount with a 18mm adapter. Well, blow me down! Aye aye! It is said t' fly on every thin' from a B4-2 t' a E9-4. Avast, me proud beauty! Avast! It comes with two parachutes a 12 and a 18 inch standard ready t' use plastic chutes.

Construction:
T' kit comes with one body tube and a heavy duty egg nose cone with rubber egg cushion, shiver me timbers, 2 E engine hooks, me bucko, 1 18mm engine hook for t' 18mm motor mount, arrr, 3 laser cut balsa fins, launch lug mount, matey, 2 o' Estes rubber shock cords (one 18 inches long and one 30 inches long), arrr, and a set o' decals. Begad!

Estes says this is a level 2 kit and I believe them on this one. Well, blow me down! This kit was straightforward on how t' build it. Begad! Avast, me proud beauty! T' directions were very well laid out and easy t' follow. Begad! Was a very fast build; t' only thin' I did different was to throw out t' rubber bands and go t' a longer set o' nylon cords for my shock cords.

Finishing:
With a little bit o' care this one it can look just like t' photo on the package and I am no model builder. Arrr! So if I can do it, matey, anyone can. Ya scallywag! T' decals are t' newer stick on types so a little care is needed t' get it right the first time. Well, shiver me timbers, blow me down! I do wish they would go back t' t' waterslide type. Begad!

Estes Eggscalibur

Flight:
I tried a C6-3 for t' first flight and I am glad I did. Blimey! It be just a little windy and a breeze caused it t' weathercock badly on t' first flight. It only went about 100 feet up then turned into t' breeze. Aye aye!

It ejected about 50 feet up and t' chute came out--lucky for me thar was no damage. Well, blow me down! It did nay even break t' egg. Begad! Begad! Blimey! If I had used t' B4 motor, me hearties, shiver me timbers, it never would have made it. Avast, me proud beauty! T' rocket is too heavy for B motors with a cackle fruit load. Without a cackle fruit it would be fine, shiver me timbers, shiver me timbers, but what be t' point o' havin' an egg launcher if you don't fly an egg? Well, t' next flight was good. I got the launch off betwixt wind gusts and had a nice straight flight with perfect deployment o' t' chute. Ya scallywag! On t' third launch t' chute tangled and t' egg was lost but t' rocket survived without damage. It's a tough little rocket and nose cone. Avast! Begad! Blimey! I will try it on an E motor next time or maybe even an AeroTech D13 motor. I might even get brave and put a F motor in it.

Recovery:
Good flights although t' chutes are too small for competition. Even with the 18 inch chute, t' hang time be only 20 seconds. Aye aye! From what I have seen at some competition launches, matey, arrr, this would never make it. Arrr! However, me bucko, me bucko, if you are lookin' for fun, ya bilge rat, then this is your baby. Aye aye! I definitely do nay like t' Estes new rubber band shock cords. Throw them out and get somethin' better. Blimey!

Flight Rating: 4 out o' 5

Summary:
This is a very good design and is fun t' fly. Aye aye! Well, blow me down! Blimey! T' only bad thin' is it will never make it at competition flights for B motors with t' parachutes provided.

Don't try to launch this rocket with anything under a D motor if you are lofting the egg. Even the slightest breeze makes the rocket weathercock with a C engine. I lost my first model after it's second flight because it ended up almost parallel to the ground and accelerated into a telephone pole. It flies like a champ though, with D engines!! I've had 3 flights with D engines and have yet to crack an egg. I haven't yet tried it with an E9 but plan to soon. This is a fun kit. Easy to build and fun to fly. The kids like to draw faces on the egg so it can "look" out the view port in the nose cone.
