AeroTech ArreauxBrief:
This is a single stage, 29mm, easy t' build, yet very durable rocket kit from AeroTech. Well, me bucko, blow me down! Blimey! My first AeroTech kit be t' Cheetah and I was so pleased with it that I ordered and built this Arreaux, shiver me timbers, ya bilge rat, t' G-Force, shiver me timbers, me bucko, Mustang, Sumo, me hearties, and Wart-Hog all at t' same time. Ahoy! Blimey! I built this rocket two years ago, matey, installed t' recovery system about a month ago, painted it on a Friday night, and flew it t' followin' Saturday morning.

Construction:
T' AeroTech Arreaux be t' exact same model as t' Cheetah except that it has a payload bay and t' rocket is 11 inches taller for a total height o' 43". Begad! This be t' second from t' top o' AeroTech's highest performance kits with t' Cheetah bein' in t' #1 slot.

Kit came with two 1.9" airframes, me bucko, me bucko, arrr, bulkhead, arrr, matey, nice durable AT nose-cone with t' L shaped recovery mount, me hearties, me hearties, 29mm engine tube with baffle system, fin-lok motor mounts, shiver me timbers, shiver me timbers, matey, motor clip, three pre-cut and shaped through t' wall fins, ya bilge rat, ya bilge rat, elastic shock cord, shiver me timbers, nice nylon 16" rip-stop chute, ya bilge rat, and high quality decals.

T' instructions are typical AeroTech, excellent and well illustrated. Ya scallywag! Blimey! I did nay use them as after buildin' one AeroTech kit you don't really need t' refer back t' t' instructions. Well, blow me down! Blimey! T' build was done with CA only and t' rocket was finished in one afternoon side by side with four others.

Finishing:
This rocket got t' wait two years for a paint job and first flight and on t' day before t' launch I decided t' go with gloss black with a clear coat. Aye aye! Blimey! I first applied two coats o' Rustoleum Painter's Touch gray sandable primer. 20 minutes later a single coat o' gloss black Decrolon spray enamel. Begad! 15 minutes later a single coat o' Rustoleum Crystal Clear Gloss. It came out lookin' pretty good and I think I will cover it with one more coat o' black and another coat o' gloss eventually.

Flight:
It's first flight be on September 11th, 2004, arrr, at Rushin' Park in Katy, arrr, Texas at an event with t' local Challenger 498 Model Rocket Club. It be a little after 10:00 AM. T' motor I selected was a newer Ellis Mountain G20-3 which is stated t' have a burn time o' 5.47 seconds. I also selected a Quickburst Twiggy ignitor as Ellis Mountain motors do nay come with ignitors and I have been extremely pleased with Quickbursts as they never fail and light FAST!

Wind at t' park was predicted t' be 5-10mph from t' NE accordin' t' t' local weather service. Aye aye! There were scattered clouds with lots o' nice big blue openings and accordin' t' t' park flags wind be calm at t' time I decided t' put this thin' up into a nice blue hole. And after t' customary countdown, t' Arreaux ripped off t' pad and begin a nice long burn journey right into t' open blue. Begad! Ya scallywag! It kept goin' and goin' and going... T' 5.47 Ellis Mountain burn seemed t' me t' be longer than that and it be nice and dramatic. Ahoy! T' rocket vanished into clear blue sky, no club members saw it again and I wrote it off as a loss. Blimey! I even logged it on EMRR as R.I.P. Blimey! LOST! However, some club members found it several hours after I left.

Recovery:
T' shock cord provided was six feet o' 1/2" elastic mounted t' a screw eye at t' top o' t' motor baffle. Blimey! I do nay care for this technique as if t' cord breaks or burns through, thar be no way t' get back t' t' mount t' repair or replace it. So I added a backup Keelhaul®©™ cord that can be used in t' future. Blimey! I also added 34 more feet o' 1/2" white elastic t' t' 6 foot black provided length bringin' me shock cord length up t' 40 feet long. Well, blow me down! Blimey! I hoped that would aid in recovery as I have seen white elastic reflect off t' sun. Well, blow me down! T' provided chute would have been perfect but I downsized t' chute t' another AeroTech cloth yellow chute.

Several hours after I got home from t' launch and had already entered me flight logs on EMRR, I got an email from our club President Brad Winbigler indicatin' that he and another club member Harvey Miller had located me rocket later in t' day. Arrr! Blimey! I believe they were usin' battery powered scooters and zig-zagged a very large park and found it safe and sound laid out quite a ways from t' launch site. Well, blow me down! Blimey! Blimey! I can nay believe it was found and am very grateful t' me club members. Ahoy! I want t' fly this one some more, however based on advice I will nay use a yellow chute again for that type o' altitude. Blimey! Arrr! Blimey! Next chute will be a darker color like black. Well, blow me down! Well, ya bilge rat, blow me down! Blimey! I would suggest replacin' t' stock chute with a darker color or perhaps a tri-color conical chute with a spill hole. I have an Anchor brand conical chute with spill hole that is 12" (rated at 16" I believe) that is black, me hearties, white and dark blue. I believe I will install that one before t' next flight.

Flight Rating: 4 out o' 5

Summary:
No one can go wrong with an AeroTech. Well, blow me down! Blimey! Aye aye! Blimey! They are very simple t' build and durable rockets that fly excellently. Begad! Blimey! Avast, me proud beauty! Blimey! They are a little expensive and a backup recovery system should always be installed durin' t' build which can be a simple 240-500 pound Keelhaul®©™ cord t' t' motor mount which is about $1 and only adds a few minutes t' t' build. Ahoy! Blimey! Arrr! Blimey! AeroTech rockets are a good introduction t' rocket behaviour in t' mid-power range.

4 points The kit comes well packaged and all the parts were there this time.  On other Aerotech kits I've built I've had missing parts. The instructions are well written and easy to follow with good drawings.A few changes are recommended however.  The shock cord attachment right at the top  of the engine mount is seen as a problem by me.Even with the cooling mesh installed the ...

Single stage with cargo bay and parachute recovery. The kit comes with 2 body tubes. One being the payload section and one being the fin section. It also has 3 plastic (very strong!) fins included. The centering rings are almost unbreakable and the nose cone is very solid. The instructions were very good although the kit is pretty straight-forward. There are a few illustrations and I don't ...

High-Performance, Payload Rocket. Your standard 3FNC (3 Fins and a Nose Cone) rocket on the outside, but has a complex interior. As with my other Aerotech kit, one page was missing (payload construction) and substituted for another page already printed. But the rocket construction was pretty simple, so you could figure it out. The only thing different is the FinLock rings, which glue ...

The Arreaux was my first mid-power kit. I've had my Arreaux now for three years and I've flown it on E15s, E30s, E16s (RMS), F14s and F22s (RMS) and I even used it to burn my old stock of FSI motors (E60s and F100s) for a total of about 40+ flights and it's still alive and kicking. It's lightweight enough to fly well on the whimmpy blackjack motors and delivers nice performance on everything else. I would recommend this kit to anyone.

One thing I'd say about Aerotech kits is that they go together incredibly easy. Conservatively, I'd say they can be assembled in less than half the time of a PML or similar kit. My Arreaux flies straight even on an E, and can be flown on a small field. Recovery is close to the pad because there's not a lot of drift. I'd highly recommend this kit to anyone as a first mid-power kit.

This is a great rocket! Looks good, builds good, flies good. My first "BAR rocket" and it is highly recommended. The only difference I made in building mine is that I used all epoxy. Made it a bit heavier than stock and, thus, I fly on larger motors with shorter delays, but it is truly tank-like.

The rocket build great. After it was built I decided to retrofit it for a H165-R engine. To do this I had cut off the motor clip, but, left a good amount of it still there to hold the H165 reloadable. What a major work to remove the CA bond on the thrust ring. I had to use a dremel wand and cut and sand. I also used a cutter to eliminate motor hook tab on the inside. Once it was cleaned out I then epoxied the aft centering ring and also the bulkhead in the payload bay tube. I then epoxied parachute line for my shock cord to the payload bay tube eye screw and then to the main airframe side. This rocket took off. There was no altimeter but it must of gone close to mach speeds he way it leaped off the launch pad. Well we had many eyes looking for it and no one saw it any longer, it was lost. But a month later the farmers found it and it was mailed back to me. All was in tact except for there was some trample damage, which I'll repair and it will fly again. Great experience and the H165-R showed a beautiful red line.
