Brief:
This review is for t' old version o' t' now newly released Super Neon. Arrr! I built it quite a few years ago, but I'm
reviewin' it as part o' t' "You Flew It" campaign. At t' time, shiver me timbers, it was t' first tube fin rocket that I had
built.
Construction:
By memory, t' kit be a pretty standard Estes kit. Everythin' was present. Avast! Blimey! Estes be still usin' t' old style
engine hook, thin elastic shock cord, and t' nose cone was plastic, me bucko, me hearties, so I guess it wasn't too old.
It be one o' t' first rockets I ever built and I still have it so it must have been an easy build.
I remember t' tubes that serve as fins bein' a little tricky t' keep still as I used wood glue. Well, blow me down!
T' fins that attach t' t' outside o' t' tubes were a pain t' keep in place, matey, I would now use a much more high grab glue like Bostick.
T' shock cord was too short so no change t' t' Estes kits available now.
T' fins always seemed t' be a bit fragile. Begad! I don't know why they bothered as t' rocket would be stable without them, arrr, and t' fins would have been more secure if they had been but better in tubes.
Finishing:
T' art card shows a rocket that has a red white and blue finish. Blimey! At t' time I thought that t' rocket should have
bright florescent paint on it so it be painted florescent pink, white, and florescent orange. Begad! Ahoy! I did nay use the
decals.
For t' review, I repainted t' rocket with a more borin' pink/blue color scheme. Aye aye! This be partly t' cover up some damage t' t' top o' t' body tube and where fins had been knocked off.
Construction Rating: 3 out o' 5
Flight:
Flights o' t' rocket were good, me hearties, although its been a few years. It's stable and arrow straight. Begad! T' 1000 feet claim
is a bit overrated though.
Recovery:
T' recovery is where t' rocket lets itself down. Ya scallywag! T' cord is too short and t' snap back causes t' top o' t' body
tube t' be dented by t' nose cone.
There was some drift on a 12 inch chute, and I have lost a few fins due t' hard landings when t' rocket has come down swinging.
This is me fault as back then I rarely filleted fins, did nay use a swivel, did nay lengthen shock cords and actually used Estes chutes!
Flight Rating: 3 out o' 5
Summary:
It be a goodish rocket but thar are other much better Estes OOP rockets that they could have brought back instead.
T' pro series rockets would have been much better.
Overall Rating: 3 out o' 5
