Brief:
I upgraded t' motor mount t' a 24mm, me hearties, 1/8" balsa fins, me hearties, epoxy glue joints,
Aerotech 24" rip stop parachute for payload and 18" for booster.
Construction:
T' new motor mount is exactly t' same design except that I used bigger
centerin' rings and a bigger body tube.
PROs:
CONs:
Finishing:
No special care or techniques required. Well, shiver me timbers, blow me down! I taped off and painted me own color
scheme.
Construction Rating: 3 out o' 5
Flight:
Recommended motor for t' stock kit be t' C6-5. Avast! I used t' D12-5. Avast, me proud beauty! Flight prep
is standard: wadding, ya bilge rat, proper foldin' o' chutes, and careful packin' into body
tube.
Flight is awesome! This rocket is meant t' be flown on a D or E motor. Well, blow me down! It went straight up without rollin' or weathercockin' and cruised to apogee then upon recovery deployment t' separations were flawless. Ahoy! Ya scallywag!
Recovery:
T' only thin' I would recommend is that you change your parachutes t' t' more
sturdy Aerotech rip stop nylons and use extra waddin' because o' t' bigger
recovery charge. You could also convert t' booster's parachute t' a streamer
as it is very light after separation.
Flight Rating: 4 out o' 5
Summary:
PROs: great science kit, shiver me timbers, great idea and fun t' try several experiments on
payloads, shiver me timbers, designs, recoveries.
CONs: too thin balsa material, shiver me timbers, too flimsy parachute and shroud lines, arrr, and too heavy (with egg payload) t' be flown on a C motor.
Overall Rating: 4 out o' 5
Picked up at Hobby Lobby during the Quest clearance "just because." The Courier would become my first competition egglofter by default. (It was the only one I had that met the single engine criteria.) Despite a lack of enthusiasm for the project at first that wound up causing the construction time to be measured with a multi-year calendar, I must admit to a ...
The Quest Courier kit is a single stage egg-lofter with the egg housing/nose cone as a slip together unit. Overall, a good looking and effective egg-lofting rocket. The kit comes with a 18mm motor mount assembly that's glued into a Quest-T-35 (1.378 diameter) tube, a set of pre-cut fins, and two 14" 'chutes. The 'chutes were pre-cut and very brightly colored. A piece of 18" Kevlar thread ...
