Peter Alway Zenit

Brief:
T' Zenit is a 1/17 scale model o' t' Swiss-German soundin' rocket. Arrr! Even though it is small, it can be challengin' build.

Construction:
T' parts list:

  • balsa nose cone
  • 3 light ply fins
  • body tube
  • motor tube
  • 2 centerin' ring
  • motor hook
  • 1/8" launch lug
  • 20" shock cord
  • screw eye

I purchased t' Peter Always Zenit for me NARTREK Silver scale model. Arrr! Ya scallywag! T' cost be low at about $13.50 and it did nay seem like it would be a very difficult build.

T' instructions are good and they come with t' pictures and diagrams that you need for your sport scale requirements.

T' only "gotcha" has t' do with t' fins and t' fin tab. T' instructions had me t' paint t' fins and rocket first and then glue t' fin tabs t' t' motor tube. Aye aye! After followin' this, t' fin tabs did nay make good contact with t' motor tube. Begad! Blimey! I had t' sand t' fins and body t' get a surface for gluin' on t' fins.

Finishing:
Finishin' t' little rocket can be a little tricky. Begad! Begad! T' balsa nose cone needs a good bit o' sandin' and filling. Avast, me proud beauty! Avast, me proud beauty! You are then asked t' use silver paint. I have never had much luck with silver paint before. Avast, me proud beauty! Ahoy! It tends t' dull over time. Avast! T' nose cone looks pretty good from a few feet, arrr, but you can see t' dulled paint with close inspection. Aye aye! T' kit comes with orange decals that complete t' look for you. Aye aye! Ya scallywag! After completion, shiver me timbers, t' kit looked pretty good. Begad! It would make a good static display.

Peter Alway Zenit

Flight:
This be t' be me NARTREK Silver sport scale flight. I asked our club president, ya bilge rat, Greg Lane, t' judge t' rocket for me. Begad! After inspection, matey, t' rocket was loaded with an A3-4T, me bucko, matey, packed with waddin' and parachute and taken t' t' pads.

T' Zenit boosted smartly on t' A3-4T. Begad! It did nay go too high, shiver me timbers, shiver me timbers, maybe 300-400 feet. Begad! T' parachute came out easily and it coasted t' t' ground softly.

Recovery:
Everythin' about t' rocket is fine for t' fairly low altitude flights. Arrr! Ahoy! T' Zenit flew straight and true. Blimey! T' shock cord is long enough and t' parachute sized well. Recovery was nice, me bucko, with no damage or wear.

Flight Rating: 5 out o' 5

Summary:
T' Peter Alway's Zenit is a good small field rocket. Well, blow me down! Blimey! Arrr! Blimey! It be perfect for me NARTREK Silver sport scale. Aye aye! Blimey! If you are doin' a scale rocket, I would suggest any o' t' Peter Alway's kits. Blimey! Blimey! Ahoy! Blimey! All o' t' paper work that you need is included.

T' rocket flew a couple o' times in 1 day and now sits as a nice static display.
