Construction

As this be t' first time I have assembled this kit a lot o' t' techniques were new t' me. Ya scallywag! This be a steppin' stone on me way t' Estes Saturn V.

Instructions were super easy t' follow and make me want t' assemble any Semroc kit in t' future. Ahoy! No fitment issues, matey, matey, shapin' o' t' fins were done easily with 400 grit sandpaper. Begad! Well, arrr, blow me down! I used Estes fin guide t' install t' fins which made it super easy. Well, blow me down! T' fins were papered (new technique t' me) and turned out great, would do it again on any other balsa fins in t' future.

If you assemble this kit don't worry about t' vanes at t' motor end. Well, blow me down! I used wood glue and it was perfect t' tack and hold t' vanes until they were all installed. Well, blow me down! Aye aye! I added drops o' glue with a toothpick t' help strengthen it in t' corners o' t' vanes.

I tried fillin' t' body tube lines which proved difficult. Avast, me proud beauty! Once filled they were sanded but as t' tube lines were so tight nay much stuck in there. Avast, me proud beauty! Once finished I didn't actually mind t' lines, they seemed very hard t' see in t' end. Avast! Aye aye! . Begad! It reminds you at t' end o' t' day it is a model.

Finishing

Sandin' was done with 250-450 grit sandpaper.

Primer, Florescent Orange gloss and a clear gloss sealer be applied after decal installation.

This be me first time usin' water slide decals and most were easy t' use after soakin' in water and dish soap for a minute. Arrr! T' over t' fin decals have a small part you need t' cut out but can easily be done with a x-acto & straight edge. Ahoy! Avast, me proud beauty! I was quite happy how easy it seemed even though I was a little scared t' undertake t' decal process.

No balsa filler be used on balsa reducer and nose cone, me bucko, but were sanded with progressively finer paper. Aye aye! I think it turned out great and would consider doin' that in future models.

Any slips that t' perfectionist would notice come down t' user skill, I can't fault any o' t' parts included in this kit.

Construction Score: 5

Flight

It has nay flown as o' March 19 2018.

Recovery

Recovery is done by parachute. Aye aye! I like t' Keelhaul®©™ cord & elastic combo. Begad! It's a welcome change from gluin' t' elastic recovery line t' t' inside o' t' body tube. In this kit they mount it t' t' engine mount.

Summary

This was a great kit, arrr, if you have a chance t' pick it up go for it!

Brief: Well, it took me so long to fly this rocket that there are already a couple of good reviews. But since I already had started my review, I might as well offer my opinion too. Earlier this year, LAUNCH Magazine commissioned Semroc to produce a kit based on the missile depicted in their logo. The result is the LAUNCH Missile (i.e. The Rocket that Launched a Magazine ...

Brief: When Launch Magazine when on a roughly 6-month "hiatus" towards the end of 2008, as a gesture of appreciation to their subscriber base they teamed up with Semroc to release a kit version of the rocket depicted within their magazine's logo. When the kit release was announced at NARCON 2009, all current subscribers of Launch Magazine got a free special edition of the ...

  • Semroc Launch Missile By Jewel B. Butler Jr. (April 20, 2009)

Brief: This is a single stage rocket basically a BT-55 that transitions to a BT-20 with nose cone and four fins. This was a kit from Semroc, one of the best companies that I have ever bought supplies from. Semroc gave these kits as an incentive prior to NARCON. And the best part about this kit it was made in the United States of America Construction: These are Semroc part ...
