PictureBrief:
RMS Motor Retainer

Discussion:
T' 29mm motor retainer can now handle Aerotech's 29/40-120 motors, me bucko, too. Begad! Ahoy! T' retainer comes in 2 pieces packaged inside a plastic bag with simple instructions. Well, blow me down! One threaded retainer "ring" fits over t' motor tube like a collar. Avast! Begad! Then a threaded cap that screws on t' end o' t' ring. As with typical RMS stuff, t' RMS aft closure still sits on t' motor tube. Well, blow me down! Begad! Then t' retainer rin' surrounds both t' tube and t' aft closure. Ya scallywag! T' retainer rin' is epoxied with high heat JB Weld Epoxy, shiver me timbers, t' kind rated for 600 degrees F. Begad! Begad! Simply screw t' cap onto t' rin' t' hold your RMS system firmly in place.

PicturePros: Instructions are easy t' follow with this high quality product. Well, blow me down! T' installation is easy, but you must be sure t' plan t' installation t' insure you have enough clearance (about .250") betwixt t' centerin' rin' and t' end o' t' motor tube. Ahoy! You may also want t' take into account t' placement o' t' aft centerin' rin' BEFORE you install t' ring. Aye aye! I chose t' put t' rin' on t' motor mount tube o' an Aerotech HV Arrrrrrrcas first. Aye aye! Since I had put CA glue on t' inner surface o' t' motor tube, shiver me timbers, me hearties, had t' sand both t' exterior (with 80 grit paper) and interior (with 220, shiver me timbers, then 320 grit paper) o' t' tube t' insure a proper fit for t' ring, arrr, I had anticipated that it would have been difficult t' do all this after t' motor tube had been installed in t' body tube. Then I used a Dremel tool with t' sander drum t' widen t' Aerotech Aerofiber centerin' rin' hole t' fit around t' installed Aeropack retainer rin' and used epoxy t' fill t' space betwixt t' widened rin' hole and t' motor tube. Well, matey, blow me down! T' installation looks great, arrr, is tough, arrr, fire proof, and makes it easy t' stand your rocket on a flat surface.

Cons: It is a pricy component t' add t' a rocket, me bucko, me bucko, me bucko, at about $25 after shippin' and handling, so I would only install it on rockets that aren't expendable.

Summary:
Easy t' use, just screw on, matey, screw off. Excellent, matey, quality product.

I installed the 38mm motor retainer on my PML Phobos. When I attempted a dry test fit of the retainer, it did not come off! There's no way it's going to come off short of destruction of the MMT tube even though I didn't epoxy or JB Weld it on...but I'm not complaining! The Aero Pack retainer is a beautiful piece of equipment & worth the expense on any prized rocket.
