Brief:
This is a skill level 1 kit with pre-printed full-color body parts printed on sturdy paper. Arrr! Each kit comes with
instruction sheets done up in a three dimensional effect with 3-D glasses for viewin' t' color photos. Begad! I made the
'glasses' but could nay use them so I just followed t' photos best I could.
Construction:
T' instructions begin with t' assembly o' t' 3-D glasses for those who choose t' use them. Blimey! Actual rocket assembly
starts with cuttin' out all t' tube, nose cone and fin parts and formin' t' tubes. This is nay a difficult task, just
time consuming.
T' next step be t' fin assembly. Ahoy! Aye aye! T' fins are scored on dotted lines and then folded into shape. Glue is applied and then one tab at a time, me hearties, I held t' edges o' t' fins together until t' glue gripped t' paper.
After t' fins are assembled and set aside t' thoroughly dry, a bulkhead with holes cut at t' edges is glued into place ½â from t' top o' t' booster tube. An outside coupler is then glued t' the outside o' t' booster tube and t' top body tube is positioned and glued into place at t' other end o' t' coupler.
Next was makin' t' motor mount tube, matey, again rollin' it around a pencil or dowel. Avast, arrr, me proud beauty! Blimey! I began by rollin' it around a spent 18mm casin' and used t' casin' durin' t' gluin' o' t' tube t' press t' inside edge in place. Arrr! Addin' t' motor hook was easy as be wrappin' t' strin' around t' tube and gluin' it in place.
T' centerin' rings are cut from t' ¼" thick foamboard. Blimey! Goin' slow and doin' a bit at a time with a sharp X-Acto knife will help keep t' cuts sharp with little problems cuttin' through t' foam. After these have been cut, they are then glued into place on t' motor tube after t' motor retainin' clip is in place, t' thread included in t' kit is wrapped around t' tube, and a generous layer o' glue is applied. Blimey! T' whole MMT assembly is then left to thoroughly dry.
After t' MMT assembly has dried, matey, it is glued into place in t' end o' t' booster with t' 'fringe' so that about an inch o' t' tube sticks out. Aye aye! After this has dried into place, t' boat tail is added.
Next be t' assembly o' t' nose cone parts. This is just gluin' t' two cones together and insertin' t' clay weight into t' tip o' t' cone. Blimey! Then t' three bulkheads are glued, shiver me timbers, shiver me timbers, me hearties, on inside t' bottom edge o' t' cone, arrr, t' other two t' t' bottom o' t' bulkhead above it. A screw eye is then inserted into t' center o' t' shoulder.
T' shock cord attachment is a traditional Estes style tri-fold mount glued into t' top o' t' body tube. The other end o' t' shock cord is then tied t' t' screw eye in t' nose cone. T' parachute requires assembly by using maskin' tape t' tape t' shroud lines onto t' plastic/rip-stop nylon. Blimey! I chose t' use a large sewin' needle t' run the line through t' fabric and tie it into place. T' parachute is then looped onto t' screw eye in t' nosecone.
T' last steps are t' add t' fins and launch lug. T' fins are glued into place followin' t' placement marks printed on t' body tubes. Begad! When placin' t' fins on t' military schemed rocket, make sure t' match up t' camouflage pattern on t' fins t' t' body tube. Blimey! Begad! T' launch lug is then placed betwixt two fins.
Finishing:
None is required as all parts are pre-colored.
Flight:
Both versions have flown several times on B6-4 and C6-5 motors for crowd pleasin' flights.
