Estes, t' long time leader, shiver me timbers, matey, has created a flyin' buddy for t' Mosquito. Avast! . Arrr! . Well, blow me down! Begad! Quark. Ya scallywag! Blimey! Quark is mini-engine, ya bilge rat, featherweight, tumble recovery rocket that's simple and fun t' fly.
T' kit comes with 5 parts, matey, instructions and decals. Blimey! You will need a hobby knife, sandpaper and glue t' assemble this kit. T' instructions are straight forward and easy t' follow. Well, blow me down! Blimey!
Construction is simple and took less than one hour t' build. T' four fins are cut from two pieces o' balsa strips. Blimey! Blimey! Once all cut, they need held together and sanded t' make them all t' same size. Then t' leadin' and trailin' edges will need rounding. Arrr! Although thar are many techniques for this, matey, I simply lay a sheet o' sandpaper on me work bench and stroke each edge t' same number o' strokes on each side. Begad! Aye aye! I find this nearly always brings t' edges t' a nice centered and rounded point. Aye aye! Well, blow me down!
Once t' fins are ready, construction is a snap, especially with t' fast-dryin' action o' CA. Four fins, a hollow, me hearties, matey, plastic nose cone and a launch lug . Avast, me proud beauty! Avast, me hearties, me proud beauty! . Begad! . Begad! done. Arrr! Made fin fillets with 5-minute epoxy, sealed t' fins with a thin layer o' epoxy, and this mini was ready for light sandin' and painting. Blimey! Well, blow me down!
I finished it with Plasti-Kote primer and some left over denim-colored enamel paint. Well, blow me down! There are seven decals, matey, excludin' t' Estes logo, me bucko, shiver me timbers, that are self adhesive. Arrr! Be cautious o' placement o' t' Quark name label. If too high on t' body, ya bilge rat, t' label will have creases in it due t' t' curvature o' t' nose cone. Ahoy! Blimey!
When finished, arrr, me Quark stood a towerin' 5. Ya scallywag! Aye aye! 7", as opposed t' t' 5. Avast, me proud beauty! Ya scallywag! 2" indicated in t' catalog. Arrr!
T' Quark is a good and fast flyer with a tumble recovery. Be sure t' designate a spotter (unlike myself), because it's small and very hard t' track. Ya scallywag! Blimey! My first flight be on an 1/2A3 and it was out o' sight . Begad! Aye aye! Blimey! . Begad! Blimey! . Ya scallywag! Blimey! and stayed that way. Avast! Avast, ya bilge rat, me proud beauty! Blimey!
