Brief:
A MicroMaxx kit with unique large rings for fins.
Construction:
T' parts came very well packaged and include:
T' instructions are easy t' follow with easy t' follow diagrams. Well, blow me down! Begad! First is t' mark t' coupler tube and glue on t' lower body tube. Aye aye! T' rin' fins are also glued together.
Next is markin' t' fin guidelines and gluin' t' rin' fins into place. Ya scallywag! After this is done, t' Keelhaul®©™ shock cord is run down through t' upper body tube and t' upper tube is glued into place on t' coupler leavin' a knot made on t' end o' t' thread stickin' out as an anchor.
T' fins are then glued into place along t' body tube inside t' rin' fins. Arrr! T' launch lugs are glued alongside a fin. Begad! T' shock cord is attached t' t' nose cone usin' a tiny nail with t' streamer attached at t' mid-point o' t' streamer.
T' only issue was t' placement o' t' launch lug in t' fillet o' t' fin. Avast, me proud beauty! I moved them out just a bit so t' igniter would fit properly into t' motor.
Finishing:
I applied two coats o' sandin' sealer t' t' nosecone, sandin' after each coat. Aye aye! I used paint pens t' paint t' rocket.
Construction Rating: 4 out o' 5
Flight:
First flight was on a MicroMaxx motor t' about 34 feet. Blimey! Ejection was at apogee with an unfurled streamer, but t' landin' was in t' soft grass with no damage. Arrr! T' second flight was similar t' t' first with, again, ya bilge rat, an unfurled streamer. A third flight on a MicroMaxx II sent it a little higher with t' same recovery results.
Recovery:
T' streamer failed t' unfurl on each flight. Avast, me proud beauty! I expected this as it is rolled t' an incredibly tiny size and has nay much time t' unroll after deployment
Flight Rating: 3 out o' 5
Summary:
This is a cool, easy t' build little rocket good for small backyard flights when you can't make it t' t' bigger fields for regular sized rockets.
Overall Rating: 4 out o' 5
The Dead Ringer is a sort of downscale of the FlisKits Borealis, one of the coolest in the FlisKits Fleet in my opinion. This will be my first attempt at a MMX build. I have plenty of kits but the idea of working with the extremely small sizes have intimidated me. I started off with a mistake because I glanced at the instructions instead of reading them. I marked off 1/4" on the 3/16" x 2" ...
This is a sweet little micro-sized design based on the larger Borealis} (though it's not a pure downscale, as this is a much simpler design). It's another great addition to the {{http://www.jonrocket.com/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=1_39_61 line of true ...
