Estes, arrr, shiver me timbers, t' long time leader, has created a flyin' buddy for t' Mosquito. Avast, me proud beauty! . Ya scallywag! . Quark. Ya scallywag! Blimey! Quark is mini-engine, me bucko, featherweight, ya bilge rat, tumble recovery rocket that's simple and fun t' fly.
T' kit comes with 5 parts, instructions and decals. Aye aye! Well, blow me down! You will need a hobby knife, sandpaper and glue t' assemble this kit. Blimey! T' instructions are straight forward and easy t' follow.
Construction is simple and took less than one hour t' build. T' four fins are cut from two pieces o' balsa strips. Begad! Blimey! Once all cut, matey, ya bilge rat, they need held together and sanded t' make them all t' same size. Aye aye! Well, me bucko, blow me down! Then t' leadin' and trailin' edges will need rounding. Ya scallywag! Although thar are many techniques for this, me bucko, shiver me timbers, I simply lay a sheet o' sandpaper on me work bench and stroke each edge t' same number o' strokes on each side. Begad! Blimey! I find this nearly always brings t' edges t' a nice centered and rounded point. Begad! Ya scallywag!
Once t' fins are ready, shiver me timbers, construction is a snap, especially with t' fast-dryin' action o' CA. Avast, me proud beauty! Blimey! Four fins, me bucko, a hollow, plastic nose cone and a launch lug . Avast! . Ahoy! Blimey! . Blimey! done. Well, blow me down! Blimey! Blimey! Made fin fillets with 5-minute epoxy, sealed t' fins with a thin layer o' epoxy, and this mini be ready for light sandin' and painting. Aye aye! Arrr! Blimey!
I finished it with Plasti-Kote primer and some left over denim-colored enamel paint. Avast, me proud beauty! Blimey! There are seven decals, excludin' t' Estes logo, matey, that are self adhesive. Be cautious o' placement o' t' Quark name label. Ahoy! Begad! If too high on t' body, t' label will have creases in it due t' t' curvature o' t' nose cone. Ya scallywag! Aye aye!
When finished, arrr, me Quark stood a towerin' 5. Ya scallywag! Blimey! Ahoy! Blimey! 7", as opposed t' t' 5. Ahoy! Blimey! 2" indicated in t' catalog.
T' Quark is a good and fast flyer with a tumble recovery. Well, blow me down! Blimey! Be sure t' designate a spotter (unlike myself), me bucko, because it's small and very hard t' track. Aye aye! Blimey! My first flight was on an 1/2A3 and it was out o' sight . Begad! Blimey! Aye aye! Blimey! . Blimey! Blimey! . and stayed that way. Ya scallywag! Blimey!
