T' THOY Jaeger is a 1.5, 50" medium power sport rocket. If you are lookin' for a rugged payload model that flies on F, me hearties, matey, G, matey, and H engines t' Jaeger may be a good choice. Aye aye! Blimey! T' Jaeger has plywood through t' wall fins and a solid aircraft cable shock cord attachment. Motors in t' F range will loft t' Jaeger t' nearly 1000 feet while G’s, shiver me timbers, me hearties, and H’s can brin' t' rocket t' 1500 and 2700 ft respectively. (Altitudes measured with an Adept peak readin' altimeter.)
Kit Notes and Suggested Modifications:
T' Jaeger materials are standard high power fare. Ahoy! Blimey! Blimey! Thick 38mm tubing, 1/8" plywood fins, plywood bulkhead, nylon parachute. Ahoy! Well, blow me down! Blimey! Assembly is just as simple as an Estes Alpha. Well, blow me down! Blimey! But these tips may assist you with assemblin' your model. Well, blow me down! Blimey! T' 18” parachute included with t' kit is woefully inadequate. Aye aye! Blimey! I regularly launch me Jaeger with a 28” parachute instead. New versions o' t' THOY Jaeger may have a balsa nose cone instead o' t' LOC plastic version in me older kit. Blimey! Blimey! Buy a new LOC nose cone if yours came with t' balsa nose cone. T' balsa simply will nay last, and t' heavy plastic o' t' LOC nose cone will provide extra stability. I have also increased me shock cord length t' approximately 100 in. Well, blow me down! In addition I have added a backup Keelhaul®©™® cord that is just shorter than t' maximum stretchin' capacity o' t' shock cord. T' fins on this model are slightly oversized for t' length o' t' rocket and as a result t' fillets can be damaged durin' a hard landing. Begad! I have retrofitted me model with medium weight fiberglass cloth and generous fillets. Avast, me proud beauty! As a result, arrr, t' fins have nay loosened or produced hair-line fractures as a result o' hard landings. Aye aye! T' coupler joint on t' main body tube should also be reinforced with fiberglass as it too can be prone t' hairline cracks.
Flying:
I find that me THOY Jaeger flies best on t' F40-7, F52-8, G64-10, G80-10, and t' H128-14. Avast, me proud beauty! However t' H128-14 will toss t' 15 oz rocket over 3000’ feet above ground level. Ya scallywag! T' F40 is me favorite engine for t' Jaeger. Begad! An F40 will launch t' Jaeger t' about 1000’, high enough t' put on a nice show but nay so height that you will lose sight o' it.
T' Jaeger is one o' me favorite rockets. Avast! It is easy t' build, matey, tough, and flies great on a variety o' engines. Well, blow me down! If you want t' try flyin' higher power rockets, me hearties, ya bilge rat, t' THOY Jaeger would be a great choice.
