Brief:
I thought I'd try somethin' new in t' motor mount department. Ahoy! T' mount kit comes in a plastic bag, me hearties, with t' parts and instructions, ya bilge rat, matey, me bucko, and as a bonus, me bucko, me bucko, a markin' guide for a BT-70. Begad! This comes from t' Sunward Eruption kit.

Construction:
T' kit consists of:

  • 2 centerin' rings
  • 4 thrust rings
  • 4 engine tubes
  • 4 engine hooks

T' instructions were straightforward, shiver me timbers, although a few minutes by t' Sunward team on formattin' so that font types and sizes were t' same would make it look more professional. Ya scallywag!

At step 2A you are asked t' make a mark on each tube at 51mm, shiver me timbers, which you never use, shiver me timbers, but later it asks you t' add a wrap at t' mark you made at 44mm. Begad! I assumed that this is a typo.

First thin' is t' put t' engine thrust rings in each o' t' tubes and then add and glue t' motor hooks. Begad! Blimey! At this stage I added t' 51mm mark on t' tubes that is needed later.

I did nay add t' wraps, me hearties, as I don't see why they are needed. Avast, me proud beauty! In a normal mount they are thar t' inhibit over movement on t' engine hook, me bucko, arrr, shiver me timbers, but in this kit t' bottom centerin' rin' does that, shiver me timbers, arrr, and if you do add t' wraps, matey, they will show on t' outside o' t' tubes which sit outside t' BT-70. Ya scallywag!

T' next stage be t' difficult part and is where I made a modification t' make things easier for myself.

Gettin' all four tubes t' sit in t' two centerin' rings was problematic, me bucko, and t' instructions suggest an extra pair o' hands, me hearties, shiver me timbers, which I did nay have available at t' time, shiver me timbers, so I drilled 5 holes through t' two centerin' rings which were placed on top o' each other.

Next usin' 5 thin rods, me bucko, I aligned t' two rings up. Begad! This kept t' rings in place and true and square for t' next stage. T' four tubes are then added with t' inside top center o' each tube flush with t' top centerin' ring. Aye aye! Arrr! I added an elastic band t' help keep t' tubes in place whilst gluing. Blimey! Ya scallywag! I tacked each tube into place with CA glue. Aye aye! I waited for that t' dry, ya bilge rat, removed t' stick and elastic bands, and then glued everything. Well, blow me down!

After t' rods are removed, me hearties, I filled each hole with a blob o' glue with t' exception o' one hole which is where I used Keelhaul®©™® cord as a shock cord anchor.

One o' t' motor tubes is angled just slightly out--a millimeter lower then t' others--entirely me fault.

Finishing:
T' motor tubes sit outside t' BT so t' fact that t' motor tubes are have grooves in them and are quite thin is an issue.

Application:
Matt used this motor mount in his SCARY FAST rocket.
