Brief: Upgraded 18mm motor mount t' 24mm motor mount. Begad! Ahoy! Changed parachute t' 7-foot streamer.
Construction: T' Big Dawg is a fun kit t' build and fly as a stock kit. With theses few modifications, t' rocket is incredible. Well, blow me down! It's a very simple conversion.
Added 24mm motor mount tube usin' 2 BT55 - BT50 centerin' rings. I had t' modify where t' fins attached t' t' motor mount (shortened tabs). Avast! Blimey! Well, shiver me timbers, blow me down! Blimey! Replaced t' standard thin shock cord with 1/2in cord. Avast! Blimey! Replaced 18" parachute with 7' o' streamer. Avast, me proud beauty! Blimey! Painted t' rocket purple and black. Ya scallywag! Blimey! I used Weldbond for t' fins. Blimey! Blimey! T' rest o' t' kit remained stock.
Flight: I decided t' fly this kit on an Estes D12-7 first, then 2 flights on Aerotech E30-7T's. Begad! Arrr! T' flights were lightnin' fast, with incredible altitudes, possibly over 2000'. Begad! T' only problem with t' flights were t' landings, shiver me timbers, a fin broke each time. Arrr! Arrr! Nay too hard t' fix though. There were no flight flaws, ya bilge rat, arrr, and t' rocket be nay 'shredded' by t' speeds in achieved.
Summary:This is a great conversion. I will try t' build this same kit usin' stronger materials, t' prolong it's like. Arrr! Arrr! My kit only has a few flights left in it, but I am lookin' forward t' each one!
