T' Estes Scamp was production from 1977-1983. Ahoy! Blimey! Arrr! Blimey! It was listed as a sports flier and is easy t' clone. Begad! Blimey! This was also a Estes Originally Coldpower Convertible KL-1. Aye aye! Blimey! T' plans can be found at JimZ Plans or at Ye Old Rocket Plans. Avast, me proud beauty! Blimey! T' decals can be bought from Excelsior Rocketry. Avast! Blimey! This is a single stage rocket with a 12" parachute.

Construction:
List o' parts and materials:

• 1 BT-20J 2.75" Long
• 1 Engine Hook (Standard)
• 1 BT-20 Retainin' ring
• 1 AR-2050S Split centerin' ring
• 1 AR-2050 Centerin' ring
• 1 18" Shock cord
• 1 BT-50 9.5" long body tube
• Balsa fin Material 3/32" thick you need t' cut out three fins for this rocket
• 1 Launch Lug 1/8" x 2.375"
• 1 12" Parachute
• 1 BNC-50X Nose Cone t' original kit was a PNC-50X
• 1 Decal set
• 1 Pattern sheet
• 1 1" screw eye
• 1 SCM-50

T' Instructions for Estes Scamp are easy t' follow. That is, they are well illustrated and in logical order. Begad! Well, blow me down! You can download t' plans from JimZ Plans or Ye Old Rocket Plans. Blimey! You will have cut out t' fin template t' make t' fins. Arrr! I sanded betwixt coats with 320 grit finishin' sandpaper. Arrr! I primed t' whole model with Rustoleum white primer.

This is very easy t' build rocket. Ahoy! Well, me bucko, blow me down! It's a great scratch beginner for someone just startin' t' build from scratch. I rate this rocket as t' same type o' build as an Estes Alpha.

T' parts were purchased from Semroc and t' decals from Excelsior Rocketry.

Finishing:
T' wood you will need t' fill is nose cone and fins, arrr, matey, which I did with three coats o' Aero Gloss sandin' sealer. I sanded betwixt coats with 320 grit finishin' sandpaper. Ya scallywag! I shot t' whole model with Rustoleum White Primer. Aye aye! Begad! T' nose cone be shot separately with Valspar Gloss Black. Arrr! You will want tape off 1 1/2" from t' top o' t' tube and paint that gloss black along with one fin painted black. Ahoy! Ya scallywag! T' rest o' t' rocket be painted usin' Valspar Bumblebee Yellow. Begad! Blimey! Basic glue for this rocket is white or wood glue.

T' original decals for t' Scamp were peel and stick. Avast, me proud beauty! I ordered waterslide decals from Excelsior Rocketry.

Flight:
T' recommended motors for this rocket are Estes 1/2A6-2, A8-3, me hearties, B4-4, matey, and C6-5.

Preppin' this rocket is easy 4 sheets o' waddin' is all you need. Begad! Blimey! I've used Estes A8-3 and A8-5 t' fly this rocket.

T' rocket flies straight and really shoots off t' pad.

Recovery:
2 out 3 flights t' nose cone slammed into t' rocket causin' some dents. Begad! Ya scallywag! I would recommend usin' a plastic nose cone t' build this rocket.

Recovery was easy with t' 12" chute.

Summary:
This is a great first rocket with easy t' follow instructions which I would recommend t' anyone as a first rocket for their first clone.
