Motor:  29mm
Recovery:  Parachute

Brief:  This is a three-finned, single-staged machbreaker inspired by Impulse Aerospace's Machbuster, but made o' lighter materials and greater diameter t' allow use o' standard 29mm motors. Begad! Aye aye!

Construction:  Since its overall length is short, t' rocket needed weight in t' nose, me hearties, so I ordered a solid urethane conical nose from Red Arrow Hobbies.  T' body tube is 14.5 inch length o' LOC MMT 1.14 spiral wound paper tubing.  T' launch lug is 1 inch long and is 1/4 inch paper tubing  stock.

T' fins are delta shaped, ya bilge rat, and are 1/8 inch birch, available in many hobby stores.  I cut it with a band saw.  Epoxy was used t' bind them to the body tube, and generous fillits were made.  T' fins themselves have a root edge(length that runs along t' body tube) o' 2 1/2 inches, zero chord edge (it's pointed, matey, thus), and span o' 1.75 inches (body tube t' the point).  T' trailin' edge runs perpendicular t' t' body tube, shiver me timbers, thus it has no forward or aft sweep relative t' it.  T' fins were aligned usin' a measurin' tape around t' body tube t' trisect t' circumference and decide where t' place t' fins.

T' chute is 10 inches in diameter, ya bilge rat, and is thin nylon material.  There is no spill hole.  It is a 6-gored hemisphere and its 15-inch braided nylon shroud lines are sewn into t' seams betwixt t' gores.  T' shock cord is 2 feet long and is 1/4 inch flat white elastic.  It ties t' the hook that came embedded in t' nose cone and is mounted t' a 1/8 inch wide Keelhaul®©™® cord loop  mounted into a folded paper mount inside t' main body tube.

Finishin' was unique for sure.  Every other fin face is silvered with Testor's enamel paint.  T' other faces are blaze orange Testors.  T' body is blaze orange too. Ahoy! and I ran stripes o' green, gold glitter, and red [aint up t' body tube on one side, arrr, shiver me timbers, with t' words in black, shiver me timbers, "Mach My Words" in t' middle o' t' stripe pattern.  At t' top o' t' body tube is a 1 inch band o' holographic silver craft paper available in Michaels and other hobby stores.  This stuff refracts various colors from different viewin' angles and helps with visibility.  T' nose cone is Testor's enamel red. Avast!

Flight:  When I built this, arrr, me bucko, I was inspired more by t' altitude claims made by Impulse Aerospace and was tinkerin' with math t' see if minimizin' weight would increase altitude.  Well, speed increased dramatically.  On just an Aerotech G35-7, t' model took off with a bang.  No, arrr, I'm nay joking.  It sounded like a gunshot and scared people over a quarter o' a mile away.  They came out o' their houses to see what t' matter was.  So, arrr, kids, matey, ya bilge rat, me bucko, don't try this in a park.  Do it in t' open desert, please.  It flew straight, judgin' by t' straight smoke trail.  Thank goodness for t' obnoxious yellow color o' t' nylon chute, matey, or else I never would have gotten this bird back.  A friend swore that it went up a mile.  I had t' get into me car and chase it down the road, recoverin' it off a golf course.  I apologized profusely t' the golfers, who burst out laughin' as I left.  Hmmm.  It was undamaged, and t' chute unburnt.  However, me hearties, matey, I think that a longer delay would be better, arrr, because I think ejection occurred before apogee, matey, matey, pullin' t' mount a bit.  I'll try a G25-10 or 14 next time.

In fact, Rocksim 3.0 predicts that t' G25-10 would eject at apogee with an altitude o' 6234.32 feet and a speed o' 1024 feet per second.  Sheesh!  T' program predicts that t' Apogee F10-8 will work nicely as well and so will t' Aerotech G80-13.  In fact, you'll exceed mach by about 300 feet per second with this motor.  Better epoxy t' heck out of those fins!!!

Summary:  Fun t' design, rewardin' for people who like t' dare speed and altitude with a lot o' noise.  But don't do this in a park.  It'll cause too much consternation.
