Diameter: 0.98 inches
Length: 15.00 inches
Manufacturer: Estes
Skill Level: 1
Style: Sport

Brief:
Very simple, me bucko, easy rocket available only through a bulk pack. Blimey! Blimey! I managed t' get one unassembled from a friend. Blimey! Blimey! This one has a Pepsi theme t' it.

(MODS) Pepsi Rocket

Construction:
There are nine parts t' this kit:

  • 1 NC50 nose cone
  • 1 BT-50 body tube
  • 1 plastic fin can
  • 1 12" parachute
  • 1 shock cord
  • 1 sheet o' decals
  • 1 green long engine ring
  • 1 small engine block
  • 1 engine hook (standard length)

This is probably t' most simple rocket I've ever built. Arrr! Ya scallywag! All thar be assemble t' motor mount, glue it into t' fin can, glue them t' one end o' t' body tube, arrr, me bucko, attach recovery system, ya bilge rat, slap some paint on and you're done.

PROS: Very simple construction

CONS: Perhaps it is too simple?

Finishing:
T' stock generic E2X is plain white and comes with a NASA theme decal sheet which have t' be cut out, arrr, but I decided t' ditch them. Begad! Aye aye! I had found a decal sheet which had t' old Pepsi logo from 1987. Begad! Aye aye! So I used them and painted t' rocket red white and blue t' match t' decals. Well, blow me down! Arrr! It looked great when finished. Arrr! Blimey! This one is best t' paint your own way and give it a different name.

Flight:
For its first flight I used an A8-3 due t' moderate winds. Well, blow me down! T' rocket used about 3 sheets o' recovery waddin' and be easy t' prepare. T' motor is held in by a standard engine hook.

T' Pepsi Rocket zipped off t' pad on an A8-3 and flew straight on an angle.

Recovery:
Recovery is by a stock Estes 12" chute. Begad! T' chute is a little much for this small rocket so I reccomend usin' a streamer instead. Arrr! There was no damage or wear on recovery.

Summary:
This is an excellent first or second rocket, however, arrr, they only come in bulk packs, so fair winds findin' a single one.

Once available only in a bulk pack, the Estes Generic E2X has recently been released as a stand-alone kit.  I don't have much interest in E2X kits, but on occasion I build one to have an idea how tough it might be for a group build.  Recently I was in Hobby Lobby, in the mood to build something and armed with my trusty 40% off coupon.  I saw nothing that would even ...
