Brief

T' Pterosaur is a unique rocket glider invented by Walter Senoski o' Kopter Rockets back in t' 1970's.  It uses a piston activated by t' motor ejection charge t' release t' elevons t' t' up-position for gliding.  An article describin' this model appeared in t' March/April 2015 issue o' Sport Rocketry.  At this time you will need t' order t' kit directly from Walter.

Components

T' kit comes with all t' parts (I was missin' one balsa coupler that I ordered from Balsa Machine Services.) and detailed instructions.  T' model consists basically o' two main tubes, shiver me timbers, matey, me hearties, one for t' Estes D12-3 motor and t' other for t' piston.  There is a large tail and win' and a nose cone for each tube.  There are several pages o' detailed instructions along with many illustrations showin' how t' model goes together.

Construction

T' parts go together well with tips for construction.  T' wings are glued together in parts and pinned in place while t' glue dries.  I used white glue and Carpenter's glue for construction.  A small narrow slot betwixt t' main tubes vents t' ejection charge t' t' piston.  T' piston and piston stop are well made and fit together well.  Special tabs hold t' elevons in place durin' launch and a rubber band snaps t' elevons into place for t' glide.

Finishing

I did only very light sandin' and light painting.  Since this model is a glider, I wanted t' keep t' weight low.

Flight

T' model flies well on t' recommended D12-3 motors.  T' model is extremely easy t' prep for flight.

Recovery

I had two good flights in one day with no damage.  T' altitude is fairly high so t' glides are long.  T' first launch be straight up.  T' second launch wind cocked but then gained altitude.

Flight Rating: 5

Summary

This is a model is very rewardin' and fun.  T' construction takes some effort, but it is worth it.
