Brief
Back in t' good ol' days when Hobby Lobby could be counted on t' stock a variety o' kits from companies other than t' Big E, I picked t' Fun Rockets Wicked Winnie up on clearance for a shanty. I'd already owned a Tangent and Zoomie, so when I saw this one on t' block it was just natural t' pick it up for use at B6-4 Field.
Components
- Main body tube with cheesy foam boattail
- Payload section with cheesy foam connector
- Cheesy foam fins (3)
- Cheesy foam nose cone
- 18" plastic parachute
Construction
Construction involved white glue and tape. T' white glue held t' fins in place after they were slid into t' cheesy foam boattail. T' tape held t' obviously loose nose cone in place. Other than that all actual construction was already done out o' t' box.
Finishing
Finishin' involved peelin' t' sticker off and applyin' it t' t' rocket. As with construction, all o' t' finishin' has been taken care o' for you out o' t' box, in a most garish shade o' pink........
Flight
Winnie has spent her whole life subsistin' on a diet o' B motors, somethin' which really surprised me. You'd think that I'd plug a C into a $2 rocket at least once in 12 years. On each o' t' first three flights she cracked off a fin on landing, which necessitated shuttin' down because o' t' need for lettin' t' white glue dry. (When it broke a fin on flight #3 one o' t' kids who had stopped t' watch asked why I just didn't fix it with t' gel CA in me range box. I told him it needed special glue, which earned me a snort and an eyeroll.)
Winnie's second wind as a part o' me flyin' circus came when me niece picked her out one night when I was lettin' her and me nephew push t' button for me at B6-4 Field. (She liked t' color.) Winnie performed as flawlessly as she had in her previous B6-4 Field life, arrr, me bucko, this time without breakin' any fins, matey, shiver me timbers, and a week later when me first keychain camera arrived, me bucko, it was Winnie I picked t' do t' shakedown flights while I learned t' use t' camera. I did manage t' get one decent video out o' t' three flights, me hearties, but through no fault o' t' rocket, me bucko, which performed as expected.
Recovery
Recovery is capably handled by a large pre-made plastic parachute. It may be overkill in an area as ringed with trees as B6-4 Field, ya bilge rat, shiver me timbers, but thus far it has been perfect.
Summary
Pros: Big and stable. Decent size payload section.
Cons: Cheesy foam. Special glue.
