Art Applewhite Super Cinco

Brief:
This is an upscale o' Art's 13mm Cinco flyin' saucer. (T' original is a free kit available as a download off Art's website.) I built this after Art's Ultra Delta and couldn't believe it has even fewer parts: three total. Arrr! That's it! The kit is all cardstock and can be built with either an 18mm or 24mm motor mount. Arrr! Avast!

Construction:
It consists o' two sheets o' cardstock, me bucko, containin' three parts that need t' be cut out.

Materials required are scissors, X-Acto knife with new blade, matey, Elmer's white glue, new or used engine casing, ballpoint pen.

This kit involves cutting, arrr, folding, matey, me hearties, and gluing. Begad! It has three parts, what else do I need t' say? Tips for this one: 1) don't use too much glue. 2) In the last step when you insert t' motor tube into t' shell, matey, insert t' mount with a motor in it. Ahoy! This will make t' mount's insertion a bit easier.

Finishing:
As usual, me bucko, finishin' involves a few coats o' clear coat.

Flight:
T' recommended motors are:

MMT size Recommended motors
18mm A8-3, me bucko, B4-2, B6-0, arrr, B6-2, arrr, shiver me timbers, C6-0, shiver me timbers, andC6-3
24mm C11-0, C11-3, arrr, D11-P, D12-0, and D12-3

Flight prep includes friction fittin' t' motor. Unlike t' Ultra Delta, this kit is intended t' only fly on Estes 2.75" motors. Arrr! I deducted 1/2 point because I love t' fly these small saucers on E9s.

I flew t' 24mm version at t' 3rd Annual TRF Reunion at Whitakers, NC on a D12-0 alongside a standard saucer, matey, a Delta saucer, and an Ultra Delta Saucer. If flew great but fought t' wind and weathercocked more than t' Ultra Delta, so I dinged it another 1/2 point, me bucko, if only t' make a differentiation betwixt t' two.

Summary:
This is yet another simple, inexpensive, high performance saucer kit. Ya scallywag! Blimey! When I built t' saucer, matey, shiver me timbers, I was thinkin' that t' all cardstock 24mm design may nay be as sturdy as t' Art's other products. Avast! Blimey! Well, blow me down! Blimey! I know I only have one flight on it, ya bilge rat, but I now don't see that as an issue. Begad! Blimey! T' one issue I see is that t' motor block, formed as a part o' t' motor tube, ya bilge rat, will be exposed t' hot gasses whether you use booster or sustainer motors. Arrr! Blimey! Avast, me proud beauty! Blimey! Since most people will nay be usin' plugged motors, me bucko, t' life expectancy o' t' rocket will be reduced. After one flight it was sooty but thar was no evidence o' damage.

Brief: The Super Cinco is an all cardstock UFO style tumble rocket. The rocket kit allows you the choice of either an 18mm or 24 mm motor mount. I had built three 13mm Cincos before from a free rocket that was sent out from a UK model shop and two others from Art's website. Construction: The parts to the rocket kit consists of two sheets of bright orange card with the rocket ...
