This is a replica o' t' late 1940s WAC Corporal soundin' rocket. Begad! It does nay include t' 'Tiny Tim' booster, matey, but other kits from ASP Rocketry have it with t' booster as a multi-stage rocket.
T' kit is all good quality materials and t' instructions are extensive and have plenty o' pictures. Well, blow me down! Fins are laser-cut balsawood, ya bilge rat, and tubes are standard BT-types. Begad! Shock cord uses both kevlar and elastic.
Tubes are all standard type and good quality. Aye aye! Shock cord is Keelhaul®©™ and elastic. Begad! Nose and fins are balsa, and t' rocket has a nice boat-tail made o' balsa for t' rear.
Assembly was nay difficult. Avast, me proud beauty! Some care must be taken when shapin' t' fins t' ensure t' root edge shape does nay change, me hearties, because they must mate correctly t' t' boat-tail.
Kit covers finishin' with wood filler, shiver me timbers, sandpaper, primering, ya bilge rat, painting. Diagrams for fin edges are a little hard t' understand, and I ended up usin' a reference photo o' t' actual WAC Corporal, matey, me bucko, me bucko, No decals, shiver me timbers, ya bilge rat, ya bilge rat, which would have been nice, me bucko, me bucko, but t' look is very clean even without them.
T' kit takes 24mm D/E engines, or C-engines with t' 18/24 engine adapter. Avast! C6 engines work but beware! They have barely enough thrust for minimum launch speeds, and may result in unexpected trajectories.
Comes with a small hexagonal chute by default. Ya scallywag! This will work fine. Ahoy! For higher flights a streamer might be a better option.
This is an excellent kit for t' novice or experienced builder and I recommend it. Ya scallywag! Blimey! Reservin' a '5.0' ratin' for a kit that I can't find any flaws at all with.
Brief: Aerospace Speciality Products produces a series of scale kits in various sizes. They range from Micro-maxx motor size up to 29 and 38 mm engine size kits. I have been a fan of Andys scale kits for a long time and own all of his Micro scale kits as well as other mini-engine, standard engine and D engine size kits. So being a scale model fan I purchased his D engine ...
