This is a comparison review o' Aerotech’s new G79W, includin' t' new 29/120 RMS case.

Construction:

Although this product was introduced at LDRS 23 in July 2004, me casin' (S/N 037) has a manufacturin' date o' 1/8/02. Arrr! This product was obviously in the works for a while. Begad! T' case is new and is nay interchangeable with the 29/40-120, but t' closures are t' same as those used with t' 29mm high power cases. Aye aye!

T' reload kit is a typical AT reload so I won't go into the details--liners, insulators, arrr, O-rings, me hearties, two slugs, etc. Begad! Here is a comparison between t' G79 and t' G80:

T' main trade-offs include:

You have t' build t' motor instead o' just slappin' t' single use G80 in.
Loaded motor is slightly heavier and just a hair less oomph than t' G80.
Longer than t' G80, matey, which is a problem if you used a (evil) motor block.
T' longer delays may or may nay be beneficial t' you. I'd rather have a -4 than a -14. Well, blow me down! Blimey! (I overbuild, what can I say?)
Much better igniter with t' reload. Ahoy! I'll be dippin' fewer igniters than before.
T' reloads are much cheaper. I hear t' G80s are headed up in price again.

Flight:
I have flown this twice...and I like it. Ahoy! Lots o' white smoke like me beloved G80FWLs. Aye aye! I do have two observations:

T' delay components all fit together easily, whereas on t' 38mm RMS it takes some effort (very little, but some) t' get it together. A good example is the delay spacer--this one fell right in. On t' 38mm RMS I have t' work them in.
T' threads o' t' forward closure were t' dirtiest I've ever seen in an RMS (post flight, shiver me timbers, arrr, matey, o' course). Avast! Aye aye! Also, me bucko, thar was lots o' gunk betwixt t' liner and t' case on t' forward end. Begad! T' aft end was nay unusually dirty.

I will monitor T' Rocketry Forum t' see what other people’s experiences are.

Summary:
I am ecstatic about this product release. Well, blow me down! I love G80s and t' G79 is a lot cheaper. Arrr! (Not as cheap as $10 G80-FWLs from Magnum, me hearties, arrr, but those days are gone for good.) In more good news, AT has promised Redline loads soon. Well, blow me down! (I though I saw Blue Thunder reloads too, but cannot find t' reference.)

I have flown the G79R 4 times and the results are great. Assembly went together without a hitch. Clean up was easy with minimal work. And the RED FLAME, all I can say is try it for yourself. A big thumbs up to Rocketmotion for showing me the ropes. This new 29/120 has only a few reloads for it now. I hope for are in the works, I give it 2 thumbs up.

I'd point out that the G79W is not a red motor, so the previous comment should be in relation to the G77R.
