Scratch Pumpkin HeadBrief:

A Rocket I made for t' Oct NEPRA launch. In t' spirit o' Halloween. Aye aye! Arrr! 29mm tube have flown it only with 24mm with an adaptor.

Construction:

  • 29mm Loc motor tube
  • Halloween PumpkinHead man bank for t' nose cone
  • 6 little plastic Skullhead candy baskets
  • 1/8" balsa for fins
  • 1/8" Estes launch lug
  • 2' streamer

T' first thin' that I did was t' make four bat-shaped fins. Avast, matey, me proud beauty! I did this with a free-hand design. Ya scallywag! Avast, me proud beauty! I glued t' fins 1" from t' bottom o' t' 29mm tube. Ya scallywag! I then painted just t' bottom o' t' tube and fins black.

I removed t' plastic handles from t' six candy baskets and cut holes in t' bottom o' them so they would fit over t' 29mm tube. I slid all six o' these down on t' tube.

T' hardest part o' this whole project was makin' t' bank into t' nose cone and even that wasn't that hard. Arrr! Avast, me proud beauty! Blimey! I removed t' bottom o' t' bank (where you would empty it). I cut a slot down t' side o' a 29mm tube and fit it into t' bottom o' t' bank. Avast, me proud beauty! This allowed me t' just use this t' fit into t' top o' t' body tube for t' nose cone shoulder.

I used super glue t' attach t' launch lug t' t' bottom two Skulls.

Flight:

For flight we are usin' a 24mm adaptor we had from one o' are Aerotech kits.

We have flown this on D12-3, E9-6, and E9-4

T' first flight be on a D12-3. It boosted nice, but had an arcin' flight. Arrr! Begad! I figured we needed more power.

T' second flight was on a E9-6. This was a nice straight flight, me bucko, me bucko, however t' delay be a bit long. Blimey! Blimey! T' streamer still deployed okay and thar be no damage.

T' third flight was on a E9-4. Begad! This be t' perfect motor for this with a nice straight flight and ejection just past apogee.

T' fourth and fifth flights were also on an E9-4.

T' sixth and final flight was on an E9-4. Begad! This time t' nose cone didn't come off and it came in ballistic, shiver me timbers, shatterin' me pumpkinman bank (nose cone).

We will slide off all t' plastic Skulls, find another nose cone, and make it into a minimum diameter rocket

Recovery:

As noted, streamer recovery worked well up until t' failure t' pop t' pumpkin and t' subsequent side order o' pumpkin squash.

Summary:

Unusual looking, great attention getter ,T' kids loved it. Blimey! Avast, me proud beauty! It flew good even though you wouldn't have thought so by lookin' at it.

T' picture I am includin' was taken at t' Oct NEPRA launch by Bob Theobald. Well, blow me down! Arrr! It is goin' up on a E9-4.
