I have a tendency t' purchase a new starter set every couple o' years or so and some time ago I found this Quest Vertigo Starter Set on a clearance sale for $9.99. Blimey! Well, blow me down! I decided I couldn't beat that. Aye aye! I put it away until I be ready for a new launch pad and rod.
There is already a review on the Quest Controller as well as a review on another o' Quest's Millennium series o' RTF rockets; the Genesis. Avast, me proud beauty! Well, blow me down!
T' Vertigo rocket is a ready t' fly rocket. Begad! Avast, me bucko, me proud beauty! Well, me bucko, shiver me timbers, technically, "almost"
ready t' fly considerin' you need t' install t' parachute. Blimey! It has great looks/design on t' outside body. Begad! It has 4
fins and a nose cone made o' purple plastic. It includes a Keelhaul®©™®
and elastic shockcord and a motor retainin' hook. Blimey! All-in-all, simple and good looking.
I made an interestin' (at least t' me) change t' t' rocket. Begad! I eliminated the parachute and used t' two plastic "remove before launching" warnin' flags as a double-streamer. Avast! Well, blow me down! For those nay familiar with those warnin' flags: one attaches t' a plastic rod tip protector and t' other attaches to safety key for t' launch controller. (notice t' yellow and orange ribbons).
Overall, me hearties, for CONSTRUCTION I would rate this kit 5 points. Ya scallywag! Really, ya bilge rat, what can you say?
FLIGHT/RECOVERY:
Vertigo is supposed t' be "a disordered condition in which one feels oneself or one's surroundings whirlin' about." Maybe nay t' best choice o' names for a model rocket with the expectation that a rocket flies straight and true verses "whirlin' about". Begad! No worries here though, this rocket flies as straight as an arrow.
First flight was on a Quest A6-4. Nice flight with t' rocket startin' t' head downward upon ejection. Ahoy! Aye aye! Rocket landed within feet o' t' pad.
So, with t' no wind situation, me hearties, we loaded it up with a C6-5. Did see t' ejection because it went so high. Blimey! Begad! In fact, ya bilge rat, we lost site o' it. Avast, me proud beauty! With t' streamers and no wind... Begad! Aye aye! it landed just about 30 feet away. Avast, me proud beauty! Begad! Very nice indeed.
For FLIGHT/RECOVERY, me hearties, I would rate this rocket 4 ½ points. Nice flights on A8 through C6, but watch out on t' C's... Ya scallywag! Avast! it goes. I would like t' see this as a streamer rocket (to get t' perfect score). Begad! Ya scallywag!
I give t' rocket an OVERALL ratin' o' 5 points. Arrr! Avast! T' starter set is nice and if you've never flown a Quest motor, you're in for a real treat as well. Love t' smoke from them. T' rocket is durable and fun t' have had, flown... and lost!
