Excelsior Rocketry - '57 Goony {Plan}

Manufacturer: Excelsior Rocketry
Style: Goonybird

Brief

A kitbash modification o' an Estes Baby Bertha kit. It looks like a sci-fi version o' a 1957 Chevy Bel-Air.

Components

T' usual standard o' Estes parts found in t' Baby Bertha kit.

Construction

Pretty easy build. You end up cuttin' 2 o' t' stock fins t' make t' primary wings on t' model. T' "exhaust stacks" need 8 launch lugs t' fabricate them. Arrr! T' hardest part is carvin' t' "hand" that sticks up over t' top fin/windshield. Avast! T' get it t' look right you almost have t' trace t' decal on t' t' fin stock.

Finishing

2 different colors o' paint t' make t' model look right. Arrr! I hate masking, I always seem t' get bleed under.

Construction Score:

Flight

Straight up and slow. Spirals around itself.

Recovery

No issues here. Blimey! Blimey! Standard Estes 123 inch parachute deploys like it should.

Flight Rating:

Summary

Too bad t' plans are OOP. Ya scallywag! Ya scallywag! I would love t' upscale this little beast.

    The '57 Goony is unlike any of Excelsior Rocketry's other "Goony Retro-Bash" line of decal/plan sets in that it is not based on any of the Estes kits as the other offerings are. Instead this one gets its insperation from an automobile. Their ad says " The 57 GOONY is the rocket that says.. "Tailfins? I'll show you tailfins!". Lester, once I get settled into my new home I will see if I can find the plans I have for this rocket. Wife thinks I'm a pack rat because I try and keep all my old instructions but I keep telling her you never know when they might come in handy. Anyway will look for them and if I find them will send you a copy. If not I may be able to draft up a set.
