Red River Rocketry Redstar

Brief:
This is another beautiful rin' fin rocket designed by Red River Rocketry. Aye aye! I had t' have it. Begad! Ya scallywag! It is a single stage ring fin with a few transitions t' add a lot o' style t' t' rocket. Ya scallywag! I also used a pink parachute in honor o' Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Aye aye! I also think this kit is a skill level three for an experienced rocketeer.

Construction:
T' parts list:

  • 1 BNC55-ACP nose cone
  • 1 BT50-14
  • 1 BT55-2
  • 1 BT55-5
  • 1 BT101-1
  • 1 laser cut fin sheet
  • 1 20-50 motor mount kit
  • 1 PK-12 parachute kit(I did nay use this I made me own chute)
  • 1 LL1 launch lug(used a 3/16 Launch lug)
  • 8 CR-55 centerings rings
  • 1 screw eye (did nay use t' one in t' kit--I used t' #206 at Home Depot. Ahoy! It is a 1/4 inch, matey, adds a little nose weight for more stability, me bucko, matey, and cut down on float aways.)
  • 10" Keelhaul®©™® cord
  • 1 SC-148 elastic shock cord (did nay use--I used a 3ft piece o' pink cord instead)
  • 2 Redstar decal sheets
  • 1 Instruction sheet
Red River Rocketry Redstar

I ordered me kit directly from Red River Rocketry and received it in three days with no bent tubes. Blimey! Arrr! Read t' instructions twice as t' shrouds are tricky since you get t' make four. Start with t' fins by gettin' them ready t' attach but wait till you CA t' shrouds on. Well, blow me down! Then t' motor mount, ya bilge rat, which I attached t' Keelhaul®©™® to, shiver me timbers, I did nay like where they put it. Aye aye! Then you mark t' main body tube for t' shrouds and centerings. Be very careful when you cut out your shrouds stay outside t' black line or use these dimensions: 0.990" for t' small end, 1.328" for t' big end, and 1 inch long in t' shroud maker program with cardstock and you should be OK. Blimey! T' BT-55 body tubes slide over t' centerin' rings real nice. Ya scallywag! Ahoy! After I connected t' shrouds and tubes I attached t' pink nylon cord t' t' Keelhaul®©™® and t' nose cone.

Finishing:
I CA'ed t' shrouds this adds stiffness t' t' paper. Blimey! Now I attach t' fins you must brin' them down as far as possible t' make sure t' BT-101 fits. Ya scallywag! Begad! Mine didn't so I had t' take out a 1/2 inch piece and re-glue. After which I wood and water puttied t' small sections o' tube that had seams. I sanded with 320 grit sandpaper. Ahoy! Ya scallywag! I painted it Krylon silver and used a black magic marker for t' black sections. Ya scallywag! Avast! I had a good time applyin' t' decals as long as they weren't too small. Ahoy! T' peel and stick decals were a breeze.

Flight:
First two flights were on B6-4s. Aye aye! Well, me hearties, blow me down! T' last flight be on a C6-7. It prepped easy and I used dog barf for wadding. All flights were straight and true. Well, blow me down! This is a really nice rocket. Begad! Ahoy!

Recovery:
I used t' Keelhaul®©™® t' nylon cord and made a pink plastic bag from t' Breast Cancer Awareness Walk into a 12 inch chute.

Flight Rating: 3 out o' 5

Summary:
I love rin' fins and tubefins. Blimey! I made t' changes t' this rocket because I build that way. Well, matey, blow me down! T' only thin' that you need t' be wary o' is how you cut those shrouds. Ahoy! I might by another one t' make it 24mm, but I'd need t' add some nose weight if I do.
