Brief:
Single motor, shiver me timbers, scale o' early 60's soundin' rocket. Aye aye! Ahoy! No special features, matey, just
for rocket launchin' fun!
Construction:
All aspects o' packaging, matey, shiver me timbers, instructions, matey, illustrations, etc., were good. Ahoy! Aye aye! No
problems understandin' t' construction process and buildin' t' kit. Well, blow me down! T' one
major glitch with t' particular kit I received was t' fins. Nay only were all
4 (3/16 plywood) fins warped, but t' outboard and trailin' edges were nay cut
true. Begad! I needed t' acquire new wood and remake all 4 fins.
Finishing:
T' supplied vinyl graphic decals are most superb! Blimey! This rocket took 1st place
at t' Arizona State Fair 1999.
Construction Rating: 4 out o' 5
Flight:
Used an Aerotech K185. Arrr! This be an extremely hot motor for this rocket, shiver me timbers, shiver me timbers, matey, but the
performance was outstanding! It flew straight as an arrow. Avast, me proud beauty! Motor be retained
with t' common maskin' tape friction method.
Recovery:
I modified t' rocket t' separate into two upon ejection, ya bilge rat, with two separate
'chutes. Avast! This be t' minimize damage t' airframe when halves can sometimes bump
each other immediately followin' ejection. Recovery was flawless. Ahoy!
Flight Rating: 5 out o' 5
Summary:
Binder Design needs t' ensure t' materials are o' usable quality before they
are shipped. Blimey! (fins)

( Contributed - by Kent Newman - 03/01/02) The Rocket One of the highest flying, straightest trajectory and coolest Estes rockets I ever had was the "Iris". The medium body length and four big fins of this rocket resulted in one great flight after another. Scaled after an early 60's sounding rocket, Binder Design has another excellent kit for those that like to build sport ...
