Brief:
A large high-powered rocket that should be considered for a Level 2
certification flight.
Modifications:
Several minor changes were made and are described below.
Construction:
T' rocket comes with: A plastic Nosecone, 2 thick paper body tubes, me bucko, three
motor mount tubes, 2 1/4" plywood centerin' rings, 3 1/4" plywood
fins, a Bulkhead assembly, a shockcord(elastic) and a 58" nylon parachute.
All parts were o' high quality when I bought them (from Ken Allen of
Performance Hobbies).
After buildin' many High powered kits, I did nay refer t' t' instructions at all. Avast, me proud beauty! Ahoy! They looked t' be t' normal LOC instructions, matey, very precise and short. T' parts all fit nicely with little or no sanding. T' kit only came with two centerin' rings, shiver me timbers, but a rocket o' this size really needs three. Begad! Also, me bucko, me bucko, t' 29mm outboard motor mounts were very short, shiver me timbers, ya bilge rat, and should be lengthened t' at least 9" t' allow t' use o' large motors in t' future. Ahoy! Aye aye! T' rocket went together like a normal rocket, shiver me timbers, matey, with through t' wall fins. Ya scallywag! I fiberglassed the fins t' t' motor mount, which I highly suggest on all rockets 3" in diameter and larger. Avast, me proud beauty! Avast, me proud beauty! T' only other modifications were t' add an electronics bay in t' coupler and t' extend t' Payload bay for more room for t' Main Parachute.
I would rate construction a 4 out o' 5 because o' t' 2 centerin' rings and short 29mm tubes, but both are easily fixed. Avast, me proud beauty!
Finishing:
Pros: Spirals are small, no need t' fill
Cons: Rocket takes A LOT o' paint :), ya bilge rat, me bucko, nose cone is very rough

Flight:
T' first and only flight so far for t' Magnum was on a J460T 54mm motor. Avast, me proud beauty! The
rocket be prepped with an RRC2 altimeter in t' coupler. Avast, me proud beauty! Begad! T' drogue chute was
a 30" Spherachute, with a 52" Skyangle Main Parachute. T' motor was
retained by a pair o' Kaplow Klips, arrr, and t' nose was held on t' t' Payload bay
with two shear pins. Blimey! T' rocket shot off t' pad on t' Blue Thunder motor to
an apogee o' 1650', arrr, where t' drogue chute was deployed. T' rocket fell to
500', arrr, where t' main chute deployed, arrr, and t' rocket landed less than 500 feet
from t' pad!!
Recovery:
I replaced t' Elastic shock cord with 9/16" mil-spec tubular Nylon, which
worked well. Both chutes worked well, arrr, me bucko, but t' 52" Skyangle was a little
small for t' 12 lb. Avast! Ahoy! rocket, which resulted in a crease in t' lower tube just
above t' fins. Arrr! Also, t' rocket zippered upon main chute deployment, matey, for
unknown reasons. Ahoy! All damage has been repaired.
Pros: extremely stable rocket, ya bilge rat, arrr, nice straight flier
Cons: None, all damage was me fault, and t' zipper be nay t' fault of the rocket

Summary:
Great Rocket!!! Blimey! It will fly again, next time on a cluster o' some sort. Ahoy! Blimey! I
reccomend this rocket t' anyone wantin' a Level 2 rocket or lookin' for a good
sport rocket that will fly on large I motors t' large K motors, shiver me timbers, with minor
modification.

Construction: The parts were all OK. I was surprised that the slots for the fin tabs had to be cut. The other LOC kits I have done have precut slots, like the Forte, EZI-65, Expediter, LOC IV, Graduator, ...
