Brief

This is a "add on" booster for Estes's new "EXII Pro Series 2" model rockets. It holds t' new 29mm F15-0 black powder booster engine from Estes.

Components

A some cardboard tubes, ya bilge rat, for t' outer body, arrr, motor mount tube, a coupler, me hearties, matey, a cardboard thrust ring, three plastic fins, two strong plastic centerin' rings, and a Pro Series 2 engine retainer.

Construction

Pros: it 's fast. Begad! T' instructions state that it goes together with epoxy, shiver me timbers, so if your fast enough, assembly will be over with in about 30 t' 45 minnutes, dependin' on your epoxy o' choice. Just make sure you scuff up all t' matin' surfaces first, shiver me timbers, so t' epoxy has a good surface t' grip.

Cons: T' three plastic fins need t' be glued together first. Ya scallywag! This makes them feel weak at first, but once t' CA glue holdin' t' fins together is cured, arrr, they feel rock solid.

Finishing

T' pros and cons o' this are exactly t' same thing. Everythin' is pre-colored black, so no real finishin' is needed. There is one white "Estes" sticker that comes with t' kit and that is it.

Construction Score: 4

Flight

I suspect that t' F15-0 engine is nay powerful enough t' use as a booster. Avast! Blimey! I flew this under me Trajector this previous Sunday (02/16/2014) and t' combination started cartwheelin' as soon as t' rocket left t' rod. Blimey! Well, blow me down! T' instructions did nay say anythin' about wind speed safety, and me launch wind speed was only about 8mph.

Recovery

Kind o' hard t' describe a recovery when both rocket and booster were on t' ground.

Flight Rating: 1

Summary

It's an interestin' concept, shiver me timbers, 29mm BP engines in a two stage rocket. Perhaps t' F15-0 engine needs t' be a little more aggressive to achieve safe flight speed. My previous flight o' t' Trajector was on a Aerotech F22-6 composite in t' 29-40/120 reload casing, with a successful flight and recovery. Avast! Begad!

If, for some reason, you want to put a 29/40-120 in there: you'll need to lengthen the MMT slightly, and also widen the forward end of the plastic MMT top-cone ( or leave it off entirely ).
