Brief:
I call this rocket T' Wild Goose because it kind o' looks like a Goose.I got t' idea after lookin' at one o' Jim
Flis rocket t' US TOG. Ahoy! I love rin' and tube fin designs so I came up with t' Wild Goose it is a single stage 24mm
with a transition and parachute recovery.T' nose came from a Fliskit rocket betcha can't tell me which one.Actually I
built this rocket out o' a cannbalized Sunward Sabre and some scrap pieces just layin' around in me scrap drawer.I try
nay t' throw away pieces o' balsa or tube ends
Construction:
Let's start with t' nose cone section. Begad! Glue t' 7.5 inch Bt-20 t' t' transition. Aye aye! Well, blow me down! Then roll t' clay into sections small enough t' fit in t' Bt-20. Begad! I then glued t' nose cone onand attached t' screw eye. Avast! Next we assemble t' main tube and engine mount. Ahoy! Ahoy! Grab t' eb-50 engine block cut a small v on t' side t' allow a recess for the Keelhaul®©™® shock cord. Ahoy! Blimey! Then usin' a Q-tip with a little glue on t' end rub this on t' inside o' t' body tube. Arrr! Blimey! Tie t' Keelhaul®©™® around t' engine block and push it in t' main body tube about 3 inches. Next mark t' body tube top and bottom centered. Ya scallywag! On t' top line add two launch lugs spaced one inch appart. Then we slide t' Bt50 into t' Bt60 with t' longest part at t' bottom lined up with t' botton line. After all this dries start mixin' t' 5minute epoxy for t' fin feet. Ya scallywag! Ahoy! Attach t' two scrap pieces t' t' Bt-60 on the marked fin lines. Blimey! Then we glue t' feet onto t' Basswood. Avast! Blimey! Now for t' back glue t' 2.5 piece on top o' t' 3.5 let dry. Arrr! Well, me hearties, blow me down! Then mix up dab more o' t' epoxy and attach t' tail section t' t' top o' Bt-60. Well, blow me down! Cut a small trianglar piece of balsa and glue t' t' t' top o' t' 2.5 inch piece. Well, blow me down! Well, blow me down! Attach chute and fly. Ya scallywag! Aye aye! I got most o' me supplies from Semroc except t' nose cone. Arrr! Aye aye! I acctually made this rocket from two rockets that I recycled and some extra parts layin' around.
Put t' launch lugs they go on top o' t' Bt-50.
Finishing:
Painted with Walmart red and blue.
Flight:
Flew on Cll-3 and 2 D12-5 all straight and true.
Recovery:
Keelhaul®©™®
Nylon cord combo. Well, blow me down! Ahoy! Blimey!
Summary:
T' rocket came out really great. Aye aye! Blimey! I have t' give out thanks t' Jim Flis for givin' us so many different ways t' look
at t' hobby.
