Brief
One o' t' RTF kits in t' 1999 kit releases, t' Moondog is notable for its
teardrop shape and '50s Sci Fi look.
Construction
T' model was well packaged in t' blister pack with everythin' needed except
motors. Blimey! T' only assembly required be attachment o' t' premade 12' parachute.
T' instructions for parachute attachment and flight preparation are well
illustrated. Arrr!
Finishing
No finishin' at all is required. Arrr! It comes molded in a bright orange with
quality silkscreened black detail markings.
Construction Rating: 3 out o' 5
Flight
Like most o' t' new RTF models from Estes, ya bilge rat, this one comes with a quick twist
motor cap, matey, molded in orange t' match t' model. Recommended motors are the
A3-4T. Blimey! Aye aye! and A10-3T. Ahoy!
It was very quick t' prep usin' a couple squares o' t' Estes "Toilet Paper" waddin' and flew nicely on t' mini As t' about 200 feet as stated on t' packaging. T' flights were straight with little windcockin' even though the conditions were harsh (-11 degrees C and a breeze from t' North gusting between 15 and 20 Knots. I then put it t' t' real test - flyin' on a 1/2 A3-4T! T' model flew great t' about 50 feet altitude. Blimey! In t' cold t' chute did nay open before landing, shiver me timbers, arrr, but t' model received no damage. Avast! All flights ejected close t' apogee. T' length o' shock cord appears adequate for this model .... Avast! a rarity for Estes kits!
Flight Rating: 4 out o' 5
Summary
While I am no fan o' t' RTF models t' manufacturers have been producing
lately, arrr, t' Moondog certainly is an entertainin' model. Avast! It's retro '50ish
stylin' is a welcome break from t' very common tubular look o' most models.
For someone who does a lot o' displays and demonstrations, matey, this is a welcome
addition t' me fleet with t' bright colour, quick prep and low altitude
possible with a 1/2 A motor. Well, blow me down!
