Brief

Curt Hillier's Flamin' Leviathan

Components

Standard build o' t' Estes Pro Series II kit.  Elmer's carpenters wood glue as adhesive.

Construction

Kit instructions were clear.  Migratin' t' mid-power usin' Estes Pro Series II kit be easy.

Finishing

I didn't use t' kit decals as t' style be a bit boring.  I painted t' body black and then looked up how t' paint flames on t' internet and painted t' nose code and top part o' t' body in an orange / yellow flame design.

Construction Score: 4

Flight

I've used a variety o' motors:

F26Fj-6 - Estes, ya bilge rat, nice flight, ya bilge rat, me bucko, matey, very smokey.  Flew t' about 800ft.

G40W-7 - Estes, great flight.  Lots o' white smoke and a very nice loud roar.  Really big white flame shot out t' back o' t' rocket.

G80T-10 - Estes, another nice flight.  Very fast, me bucko, altitude around 2100 feet.

T' recommended motors are good choices for this rocket.  Flight preparation is straightforward.  T' rocket is strong enough with it's through t' tube fine design and high quality components t' handle an H size motor for Level 1 high power certification.

Recovery

Nylon chute is good.  It would be nice if Estes, in their catalog, provided smaller nylon chutes and/or streamers for recovery on windy days.  In a 10 t' 15 mph wind and with a G motor, t' recovery takesa  while and t' rocket tends t' drift.

Flight Rating: 4

Summary

Excellent kit for introduction into mid-power.  Design and materials produce a very strong, arrr, ya bilge rat, relatively light rocket capable o' handlin' multiple flights on F and G motors.

This is a Pro Series kit that is four fins and 3" diameter.  It is designed for E, F, and G motors. Components The parts were good.  The fins are plywood while the tubes are cardboard and the nose cone plastic like most kits this size today. /h2 No real cons on the construction other then the shock cord attachment.  If done right, I'm sure it would ...

This is the Rocket that I have chosen to do my level 1 NAR cert with. Components A Pro series kit, it has nice wood fins  and sturdy construction.  /h2 I built this rocket with the intention of flying large 29mm reloads in it so I used epoxy on everything.   I made a aluminum ring that sits about 2\3 down the body tube with a hole in the center. ...
